  • I responded to the survey but did not vote yes or no - instead I added the third option and voted for the city to continue the present system. The automated system was supposed to save money and this saved money should fund this part of the total garbage pick-up system. If the city decides to go automated on the yard trash, where does the inital money come from to buy new trucks, etc? Lets use the savings money OR better yet use the funds the Visitors Bureau wants from the city and use this to continue using the present system and existing equipment.

  • Wait a minute, from articles in the VICAD....

The city decided to end yard waste collection Jan. 1 after a survey showed not enough people were interested to make the program pay for itself. It was estimated the move would save taxpayers $230,000 a year.

$230,000 a year, but yet....A request for $750,000 to promote Victoria will be considered by the city council Tuesday, but at least one person has concerns about the proposal.

Hmmm, seems to me the visitors bureaus request is enough to pay for 3 YEARS of yard waste collection.

  • I regret that I did not respond to the letter that the city sent out about yard waste pick-up. I found the wording confusing. I wish to go on record as being willing to pay a little extra monthly for the yard waste pick-up, or to purchase a separate automated container for my yard waste.

The composting of "green" waste is beneficial to everyone and keeps all those wonderful nutrients from being wasted in the landfill.
