  • cooking with peppers is not about making your food hot it's about the flavor each pepper gives the food! the green chilis give good flavor! the hot ones just make the food super hot is that supposed to be good or what?

  • Bhut Jolokia

known for generations in a small remote area of India, this pepper is only now (last few years) becoming widely known. It is officially the hottest pepper on record with a rating over TWICE that of the previous hottest pepper the Red Savina.

In 2000, scientists at India's Defence Research Laboratory (DRL) reported a rating of 855,000 units on the Scoville scale, and in 2004 an Indian company obtained a rating of 1,041,427 units through HPLC analysis.

to give you an idea of just how hot a rating of over 1 MILLION Scoville is, here is a chart:

    0 Bell Pepper
    100-500 Piminto
    2,500-8000 JalapeƱo Pepper
    10,000-23,000 Serrano Pepper, Chipotle peppers
    50,000-100,000 Thai Pepper, Chiltepin Pepper
    100,000-350,000 Habanero chili pepper
    350,000-580,000 Red Savina pepper
    855,000-1,050,000 Bhut Jolokia
5-5.3 million Law Enforcement grade Pepper spray
    16 million Pure capsaicin Crystal
