  • Ktfootball, the reason you don't see much on here by people whose children have been molested is that the great majority of those molestations were done by fathers/brothers/cousins/uncles/community leaders/church workers/trusted friends, neighbors, co-workers, people who were never on a sex offense registry. Do you know how rare "stranger" molestation is when it comes to children? Please do some research; start with www.txvoices.com. Google the subject, but be sure you are reading articles that are backed up with research and are published by reputable sources and not just people ranting about what they believe to be true. The greatest number of people on the registries are those who have never molested a child or raped a woman, those who are not a danger or threat to the community. While you are doing research, you will find that, even with those who have committed some form of sexual offense, the chances of them re-offending is the lowest of any other crime. Good luck to you.

  • Seems like we are just hearing from the molesters or their family and friends. How about asking the ones who have had their little boy/girl sexually mollested by one of these high risk idiots. I dang sure want to know who the sex predators are living by me, especially with kids. Change the law about having the low risk on the registry. But until then I want them away from the schools. I voted "YES"!

  • The vast majority of people on the registry are normal people looking for a normal life. People that have made mistakes in the past, but that is where they reside - in the past.

Yes, some people listed on the registry are dangerous, and need to be looked after. Then there exists the rest of them that pose no risk, incest offenders, young boyfriend/ Girlfriend cases and so on. Most knew their victims and it was not the stranger danger case.

I can do nothing but push forward, if only for my belief in humanity, the belief that someone somewhere will gain some common sense and see that this is wrong, and it needs to change.

I do not think the public knows how many victims this registry makes, not just the ones on it, that have paid their debt but their children also who are harassed and shamed, they are guilty of nothing but it still affects them also.

All I ask is people to look at the real facts and the amount of time and money that is put into the registry for low risk offenders that should not be on it.

I also do not think the public knows that the offender on the registry will always get older, but the victim stays forever young, in other words a 18 year old could have had a affair with a 15 year old, and now he is 40 and she is still 15 on the registry, so the facts are hidden, every one thinks it was a older man that molested a young girl, which was not the case. If it was not for the money made, by the industry that has been built up around sex -offenders we would not be having this debate

  • if the truth be known woof woof u probably have a family member or yourself even that was molested by a family member or close friend....it happens all the time. It's just people don't talk about freely. I was molested repeatly by my step dad from age 4 to 16 and by an uncle from about 7 to 14. as a matter of fact i am 49 and to this day i avoid my uncle because he still makes passes at me...so what if a RSO lives close to chandler school he's paid his debt and will continue for his life to pay a debt already paid.why isnt there a registry for murderers so we'll know where they live or better yet anyone who has ever committed a crime...stupid huh? so is the sex offender registry for non-violent offenders.

  • I voted no as well because there are too many on the registry that should not be on it in the first place. Only violent offenders of ANY kind should be on a police-viewed registry. If someone is that dangerous as to pose a threat to anyone, they should not be out anyway. The registry is just for the $$$, it has proven nothing but ignorance by our legislators. There are too many facts about the entire mess and they aren't reading them.

  • maybe the schools should be farther away from town to keep the poor kiddies away from all the perverts that live close to the schools! what about the perverts that work for the schools I'm sure there's a few in the mix of teachers and other school employees! A better idea might be to make all sex offenders wear a helmet with a red blinking light on top!

  • It is so great to see this forum and the response. This is a good start to educating the public of how overreaching and unjust these laws are.

  • Alert, alert: A sex pervert lives near Chandler
    Elementary School.

  • Exactly, Sandihr!
Even someone who takes a life is not automatically labeled a murderer. Yet tens of thousand of young men are on the sex offender registry for doing no more than most young people do. Consensual sex or touching with an older teen or chatting online, etc. is not the same as someone who molests a child or rapes a woman. These laws must be reformed to better protect our communities.

  • I have also voted no because those that are not dangerous should not have any restrictions. We need to only know info about those who are truly dangerous and a predator. I don't care if a boyfriend, girlfriend consensual thing, an online chatter, a urinator, a falsely accused person live next door to me. Frankly, I don't care if a predator lives next door to me. I refuse to depend on the government for my protection.
I might like to know if a serial killer or charles manson lives next door to me more than a sex offender. Do you really think a restriction will stop someone who wants to rape or molest? NO

  • I have just voted "no" in the poll about restricting where registered sex offenders live. I would like to have voted "yes," but I cannot as long as:

    1. the lists of registered sex offenders is at least 90% non-violent, non-dangerous, minimal to zero risk, and often no-victim offenders.

    2. unbiased polls continue to show that these sorts of restrictions are virtually useless in accomplishing what they claim to accomplish

    3. politicians continue to use this general topic to ingratiate themselves with voters even though they have evidence that current laws and restrictions regarding this issue are counter-productive.(http://sexoffenderresearch.blogspot.com/2009/10/ca-group-opposes-sex-offender-registry.html)
