  • Nope. Arguments FOR it are ultra-nationalist drivel. If anything, we need something to remind us of why 9/11 happened --> decades of foreign intervention. Oh wait, we do have a reminder -- September 11th, 2001. (You gotta love the circularity of history!) Yet, we're still occupying foreign lands (700+ bases in 60+ countries), orchestrating coups (Iran,Venezuela), and undermining foreign economies (via IMF & World Bank).

Please, no more flag-wavy holidays. I'm sick of the countless excuses we find to wave flags. The flag doesn't represent what it used to. It's now a corporate logo for imperialistic, non-representative form of government. I love the IDEA of America but loathe the country it has become after decades of complacency and concessions of power to Big Brother. It's time to reclaim our country from the Left-Right machine. How about a holiday for that? Hey, let's call it Independence Day!!

  • It wouldn't be about celebrating the day this occurred, but about commemorating the lives of the civilians, firefighters, police officers and soldiers that were lost as a result of it.

  • When this poll first come out it was majority "yes". Some people do not understand the difference between a holiday and a day to remember. I think it may need an additional title, like in all our wars, this was one battle, like Iwo Jima.

  • The very fact that this question was even asked at all, says a lot about the asker.

Even Memorial Day, as solemn a holiday as there is, is treated as little more than an excuse to party and get off work.

  • DEFINITELY NOT! LOOK WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MEMORIAL DAY! BBQs, PARTIES ON THE BEACH, A HOLIDAY THAT, TO SOME, HAS LOST IT'S MEANING!

  • Is Memorial Day a celebration? How about Veteran's Day ? No, they are days (holidays) set aside to honor those who died in serving our country. How about making it a day where your boss would give you the day off but you have to show proof that you and your family went to volunteer somewhere? Maybe at Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habit for Humanity,Christ's Kitchen. This day should be about honoring the AMERICAN spirit. Don't forget those that died that day doing their job. Not everyone worked in those buildings though they died doing their job there. Please NEVER FORGET !

  • Absolutely NOT. A day to remember, yes. A holiday (so we can have a day off from school or work and celebrate with our families) ... NO WAY. Fly the flag at half-mast and remember the victims of this horrible human-caused tragedy.

  • 2,752 folks died. We should never forget. Americans are silly and forgetful. I say we let Confederates Hero's Day go, talking about a sick holiday, and replace it with 9/11.

  • what kind of sadistic people would want to celebrate 9/11! this is the most horrible poll I have ever seen.shame on you Victoria Advocate.

  • A day of remembrance maybe, but holidays are for celebration. I'll never celebrate something like this.

  • It should never be forgotten, but not celebrated as a holiday. Is pearl harbor a holiday?

    September 11, 2009 at 11:45 p.m.
  • Yea, for the middle eastern countries.
Why would any American want to celebrate this tragedy?
