  • Suzy I truly disagree, the liberals and democrats would have risen to insure a fair and wise speech was given. That is what everyone else did. Obama was stopped from demanding the students pledge allegence to him. He was stopped from saying a lot of political things.

Instead, he did give a wise speech. But he was forced into giving that speech. That was not his original speech. So I give him no credit for that speech. He was caught trying to sneak an end run around the parents and start brain washing the children. The General Populous and parents stopped him. Well done. Now there is a speech available to all that is okay and does not have the first breaths of communism or nazism school practices in it.

  • What I got out of his message was great, telling kids it don't matter where you come from or how much money you have, if you stay and school and study hard you can become whatever it is you desire. Now what parent can disagree with that?

  • It's over, done with. Everyone that wants to see/read, the speech/script, can. Let's all leave it at that. It does no good to tell other people that they are wrong or right. People believe how they choose to believe and no one is going to change their minds.
    Let's just all move on.

" I should kill my beliefs as not to offend yours right?"

In the same token, the people that DIDN'T want their kids to see it should kill theirs? VISD taped the speech for anyone to see on their own time. I haven't approved of any president giving a speech to kids during school hours. I left it up to my kids wheather or not they wanted to watch it. I tivoed it. When they got home they had the opprotunity and they declined.

  • I should kill my beliefs as not to offend yours right? Every honest hard working American who does not want their child to be encouraged in any way by as many as possible, please stand up. OK now jump off a bridge somewhere. This is not about the message.IT is about the messenger ,everyone is watching.Including that kid you want to experience happiness in life.It does start at home,so everyone who did not want this speech spoken for ridiculous reasons ,your kids are learning.

  • OMG1, you hit the nail on the head. We would be hearing a lot different story here if it would have been McCain, Palin, or the Pope giving the speech in School.

  • I'm not surprised at all by the voting on this poll. I listened to the speech at work as my son was listening to it in school. I think it was very positive and am glad my son was able to be a part of it. My son came home telling me how important it is to try hard in school and try not to watch too much TV or play video games. He enjoyed the message, as did I. I think most people that voted negatively probably did it more out of popularity, how sad.

  • OMG ,That is the truth behind all of this. I watched the speech and IT was very encouraging.I dont care if i wake my child up a thousand times a night to tell him stay in school,if someone else wants to also deliver this message to my child -Thank You. If that someone is the President of the United States of America-Thank You SIR!!

  • What the President had to say didn't cross any lines.
He encouraged the kids who needed it most. Those of you who didn't like the speech, don't like the President. It wouldn't have made any difference what was in the speech, you wouldn't have liked it.
