English is not America's official language, by law. Some of the states have adopted it as such. All it means is that the government must do it's business in English, but it does not mean that it cannot use other languages as well. And, it does not mean English-only.
FYI for all the yahoo's in the sticks, english is the official language of the US and almost the official language for the business world.
If you want to do your career a favor, become fluent in spanish. South America is a hot bed of work for years to come.
If I'm not mistaken, the most recent harris county primary, the ballot was available in four languages. There's a reason the US is the greatest country around. It is without doubt the land of opportunity for ALL. Plenty of chances out there for anyone wanting to work for it.
So don't get caught up on who speaks what or who is getting what, just live free. USA baby, got to love it !
No one is trying to make people stop speaking their native language. It's just that too many people are demanding that their native tongues get equal treatment when it comes to education, voting, commerce, or whatever else is involved. Do we have to have every language taught in our schools. You cannot discriminate between one tongue or another. You simply have to have an official language in America or it is going to become chaos.
ITS NOT GOING TO STOP MEXICANS FROM SPEAKING SPANISH OR CANADIANS FROM SPEAKING FRENCH OR CAJUNS FROM SPEAKING CREOLE... ITS A MOOT POINT THIS IS AMERICA LAND OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE MULTICULTURAL BRAVE.
