WWW, yes I understand that she would be unable to set bail BUT her stance is that bail should be set high to warn off future criminals....the intent of her words, whether she is capable of such action, is what is telling. Knowing Writein & his feelings about such tactics, it surprises me he would support someone who believes the way Ms. Branch does.
I use my vote (this year) for punishment purposes. Since I live in an ultra conservative area, I have no voice but the ballot box. Rick Perry and his supporters will be punish as well those of Steve Tyler and Matt Ocker etc.
VBB...Your concerns about Branch and her views on bail are valid, but, remember that the DA does not set bail in criminal cases. Judges set the bail so Branch won't be able to punish people with unmakeable bail.
I have to correct you on something. I am vocal about anyone, who doesn’t have the economic or social backing in the crossroads area, being stuck in jail. This isn’t just about minorities. I use minorities because I am a minority and because of my life experiences. I already told you on this forum why I support this candidate. Let me state again why. Anyone is better than Tyler. But then again you might falsely assume why I am “backing” Branch.
Writein, if what has been said is true...Branch wanting to use bail as punishment, how can you support her? You have been very vocal in the past about minorities being stuck in jail because of high bails, when they have been found to be innocent (Yoakum case comes to mind & anyone of color arrested in Edna). If what I have heard is true, then her style of crime & punishment would hurt/target minorities the most. Explain your reasoning please or else I will assume I already know why you are supporting this particular person.
saw216, When has Branch ever bucked the powers of Victoria County? When has she ever prosecuted a murder or gang-related crime? When has she ever demonstrated her commitment to principle of Law over her own career advancement? These are serious questions that demand a deliberate and thoughtful discussion. Do you wish that the community go back to the way things were before Tyler had the cojones to challenge the political base? It may be interesting to some that the Junior League fully supports Branch. Even insomuch as to wear her political buttons at their gatherings. Seems there might be a conflict between that demonstrative act and their tax-exempt status. Tyler's not someone's lackey, he's fighting for the basic rights of all citizens, regardless of status or position in our society. If you can't get behind that thought or character, serious reflection is in order. 85, your post is, in my opinion, mindless.
To all the Branch supporters; have you checked her record while employed as Asst.DA in Victoria County? In particular, the percentage of dismissals? There is a reason for that...indictment, ruin someone's live...flimsy evidence....DA dismisses instead of going to trial. That is the progressive way.
People....wake up. Steve Tyler, though at times lacking a bit in finesse, is the only one EVER to have the guts to take on the Rich and Famous and Powerful in this town. Do you really want the Good ole boy political machine to run Victoria?
Thank goodness for Branch!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel concerning the tyrant Tyler. It will be a much needed boost of morale to local law enforcement.
Although I am registered as a Republican, I encourage other Republicans to actually vote for the best DA and DONT just vote Republican across the board.
I hope for Victoria that Steve Tyler wins, he's not afraid to go up against the good old boys. The bullys have finally met their match... and are kicking up sand like the spoiled kids they are...Vote Tyler for a clean sandlot.
Branch all the way! Tyler is a good man but to me his rep is tainted and it is time for a change. They call it progress. Good Luck Mrs. Branch. You have my vote!
