Pistons oust Magic, reach 6th straight East finals

The Detroit Pistons made just enough shots and stops to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for a sixth straight year.Richard Hamilton scored 19 of his 31 points in the first half, made victory-sealing free throws late in the game and Tayshaun Prince had a key block, helping Detroit hold off the Orlando Magic for a 91-86 win Tuesday night in Game 5 of the second-round series. more >>

Kobe's back much better, says he'll play in Game 5

Kobe Bryant walked a bit gingerly as he emerged from the training area at Lakers headquarters to speak with reporters Tuesday, remaining on his feet since sitting is not a preferred option because of his sore lower back. "Quite a bit (of pain), but it's a lot better than it was yesterday," Bryant said with a smile - his mood clearly positive. "It'll be fine." more >>

Mike D'Antoni is bringing his high-scoring brand of basketball to a Knicks team that seems ill-suited to run it. No matter. The former Phoenix Suns coach figures he'll come up with something that works. "I will adapt what I do. Now I like to play fast, move the ball and all that stuff, and we'll try to do that as best as we can," D'Antoni said Tuesday. Still stuck in a shooting slump, James dominated down the stretch and finished with 13 assists - four in the fourth quarter. Kobe Bryant met the media Monday with a new companion - an electronic stimulation device hooked up to his sore lower back. Plans call for the two to spend a lot of time together for the next couple of days, or longer. League MVP Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett were selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team on Monday, along with Marcus Camby, Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets 100-80 on Sunday night in Game 4 to even the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2. SALT LAKE CITY – Andrei Kirilenko blocked Kobe Bryant twice in overtime and converted a three-point play with 35 seconds remaining as the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 123-115 on Sunday, tying the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2. The Jazz went 9-for-9 from the foul line in overtime and outscored the Lakers 15-7 in the extra 5 minutes. more >>

Lakers' Ronny Turiaf ejected for flagrant foul in Game 4

Lakers forward Ronny Turiaf was ejected early in the second quarter of Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Jazz on Sunday for a flagrant foul. Turiaf knocked Utah's Ronnie Price hard to the floor as Price drove for a layup, leaving the Jazz guard with a bloody gash over his right eye. more >>

Mavs make it official, announce hiring of Carlisle as coach
