Texas saltwater fishing report

EAST GALVESTON BAY Trout are good on scattered shell in six feet of water on pearl/chartreuse and strawberry/white Bass Assassins, Norton Sand Eels and live shrimp under a popping cork. Trout are fair to good at Hannas Reef on shrimp and red plastics when the wind allows. more >>

EAST MATAGORDA Trout are fair to good at Mitchell’s Cut on red shad plastics and finger mullet. Redfish are fair to good in the surf on mullet and shrimp. Trout are fair to good for drifters working mid-bay reefs. more >>

Remember the old, but think about the new

“Make new friends and keep the old; one is silver, the other gold.” An old saying, and it’s so true for all gardeners. Spring is a poignant season, reminding us of our cherished old plants – the ones we’ve had and enjoyed awhile. But it also gets us thinking about plants we just obtained or will soon get. We watch to see which plants sprout after winter’s harsher weather. And we plan for the new plants we’ll add. Each spring holds “extras.” For instance, some plants may bloom more beautifully than usual. One of this year’s extras may be orchid trees in this area. We’ve seen many orchid trees in glorious bloom all over our area. And several friends have told us about orchid trees that have never bloomed before, but are now making up for lost time. So far, our orchid tree is blooming less. But we have a bush we took a chance on that’s been blooming continuously for several months. It’s supposed to be too tender for our area. more >>
