Eagle Scout Spencer Weber
Spencer Weber Receives Eagle Scout Award Spencer Weber, a resident of Van Alstyne and member of Troop 44 in Van Alstyne, Texas has been awarded Boy Scouts of America’s highest award, the rank of Eagle Scout. Spencer received the award on June 7, 2009 by members of his Troop and the Circle Ten Council, at the First Baptist Church in Van Alstyne, Texas. Spencer also received a resolution from the Van Alstyne City Council and Mayor Mike Parker. Spencer joined Tiger Cubs in September 1998 with Pack 6 of Van Alstyne and has been a member of Scouts since that time, becoming a Boy Scout in March of 2003. Spencer has earned 27 merit badges and the Eagle Bronze Palm. Spencer has completed Oak Leaf Leadership training, National Youth Leadership Training and National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (Philmont) and has staffed Oak Leaf Training and NYLT numerous times. He is also a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouts National Honor Society and has served as Ordeal Master and Elangomat. Spencer has held numerous leadership positions in his troop including Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Instructor, Chaplain Aide, Scribe, Den Chief and Librarian. He has completed over 450 service hours. For his Eagle Scout project, Spencer worked with the YMCA Adventure Camp to expand their Challenge Course. With the help of fellow scouts, he constructed several games to be used at the camp. These games include a play pen area constructed of telephones poles cut to various heights, a trolley walk, giant puzzle and rescue junior. The project involved over thirty scouts, scouters and was completed in 234.5 man hours. The 17 year old Eagle Scout will be a senior at Van Alstyne High School where he is a drummer for the Van Alstyne Panther Band, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Class Officer. Spencer is an active member of the First Baptist Church and has played the drums in church services for four years. Spencer plans on staying active in the Troop as a Scout until he is eighteen and then will become an adult leader. He has recently joined Venture Crew 44, chartered by the Church of Christ in Van Alstyne. After graduation, Spencer plans to attend Texas A&M University. Parents are Troy & Lynette Weber of Van Alstyne, TX, sister, Allyson and brother, Ashton. Grandparents are Dale & Rose McCleskey of Van Alstyne, TX and Lee & Annie Weber of Victoria, TX.
