Our Dad
Photo by: BobOUR DAD For as long as we can remember, our Dad climbed pecan trees and thrashed them. He would lay out old army blankets under the tree to catch the pecans and then we picked them. In the meantime, Mom cooked the noon meal over an open fire. We then went to the feed store to sell the pecans. He did carpentry work in the spring and summer months, but in pecan season we lived off of leased pecan (bottoms), or acreage. Later in life, even in his eighties, he would go sit at the picnic table and crack pecans and carefully peel them to give to friends and neighbors and our personal use. We miss the sound of falling pecans and the pecans cracking in the old hand held cracker and of course the smell of pecans. Love you Dad, Your Daughters and Sons........
