Twenty-two O. H. Herman Middle School students took up the challenge to read and pass the Accelerated Reader quiz on at least three books from the Texas Lone Star Reading List compiled by the Texas Library Association. The Texas Lone Star list is a recommended reading list developed by librarians from the Young Adult Round Table. The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6, 7, or 8 to explore a variety of current books.

As a reward for their efforts, students were treated to punch and desserts donated by the Language Arts Team and Librarian. Each student also received a red, white, and blue bookmark. The top reader, Fhynix Wetz, received a special prize for reading six books from the list.

Students selected Pop by Gordon Korman as their favorite of the twenty books on the list.
