A year ago my mother, Roberta Palomarez of Goliad, suffered a stroke and I, along with my two sisters, had to make the most difficult decision of putting our mother's care in the hands of a nursing home facility. This has been very difficult, but as I make my visits to see my mom, I realize how blessed I am to still be able to hold her hand, kiss and hug her and tell her how much I miss and love her. Even though she cannot speak, she does have her special ways of communicating. Our visits together consist of prayer, listening to inspirational music and updating her on what is happening within our family.
I chose the picture of my mother with her granddaughters (she has grandsons as well) because happiness and laghter can be seen whenever my mom is around. My mother was very funny and loves her family dearly. She loved to cook carne guisada, corn on the cob, make fruit salad, sweet tea and lemonade. We miss her special dishes. Our family gatherings have a missing smile, but our hearts feel her presence.
I know how much my mother wants to be home again with her family, and our prayer is that one day we will make her wish come true.
Mom, on this Mother's Day, I thank you for all your love and for being the greatest mother a daughter could have.
With love,
Becky Arriazola, Victoria
