It seems that sometimes the Commissioners have a hard time separating the maintenance work they do in their precincts from the votes they cast on the Court. I don't recall ever seeing a dissenting vote from Spann, which tells me either he didn't want to make waves, he didn't know what he was doing, or his fiscal principles are out of whack. I don't mean to kick a man while he's down—despite his backwards attitude about appreciation from his constituents who pay him over $70k/year—but it was time for Spann to be a yes man elsewhere. Sadly, his replacement will be one of two gov't fixtures who'll likely follow in his footsteps.

    EdithAnn,

Great point about the Film Festival precedent, or as I like to call it, the "Fudged Film Festival Funding Fiasco" (http://bit.ly/MYHq6u). Hmm, I guess the rules got "F'ed".

How about another alliteration for this occasion:

EditorialBoard: "the election code gives room for revisions to a candidate's application"

This keeps being written as if it applies to this situation. I guess if it's repeated enough, it'll become the truth.

    Mike,

My support of "unelectable" reflects poorly upon the voters, not upon me. Sadly, when the dollar tanks and our foreign policy overwhelms us, we'll be presented with a phony scapegoat that demands more gov't intervention. Although, there's still a glimmer of hope that enough attention has been given to the Fed that they'll be in the lineup of suspects. And I'm still holding out for the Left to translate its principles of environmental sustainability into principles of economic sustainability.

And I'm sure I fall into one or both of the derogatory categories he's created for citizens with dissenting opinions — "Prophets of Doom" and "Idiots of Destruction". (Go to the 3:30 mark of track 16: http://bit.ly/JquYGT) I wouldn't mind being immortalized by one of his brands because I want history to show I opposed his artificial growth schemes that relied on hidden economic trade-offs and mounting debt. When he shows me the 500 primary jobs ($40k+) and presents me with a balance sheet showing he's accounted for every measurable economic parameter & public expenditure and it demonstrates a worthwhile county-wide net gain, I might change my tune. I'd also like to see a comprehensive list of businesses that have moved their operations outside Victoria County strictly due to unfavorable baseline business conditions. Until then, we're talking about nothing more than highest-bidder corporate welfare, scaled-down central planning, and middle-class wealth slurping.
