And this has what to do with Victoria, Texas?

It's an age old dilemma, same problems, same questions schools in South Texas have had for years, but now it's increasingly worse. VISD isn't the only school district fighting these issues and looking for the "magic bean". I'm glad to see that people finally call it what it is......it's a culutral issue. Period. The community has to solve it. How? Who knows, but it's not going to get better until things change. A hard line and tough stance needs to be taken by our local school administrators, superintendent, and legal officials. I agree with Holein1 and Barry 100%! The people that care need to demand change. Absolutely demand that our elected school board officials set an expectation, follow through with that expectation, and see to it that our schools become exmplerary learning environments. Unfortunately, there will be causualties along the way, but like the old saying goes "Things might get worse, before they get better". That's just the cold hard truth love it or leave it.
Yeah, good if your on a diet! Who on earth eats that?
The Police Officer in question handled that much better than any regular Joe......based on the comments I have read on this page, the Officer acted with more patience and professionalism in that situation than most of us would have. Bottom line: OBEY THE RULES, LISTEN TO THE POLICE, ACT WITH COURTESY and DONT DO STUPID THINGS!
All I aks is that Garrett please bring in an Asst. City Manager from a progressive, modern, forward thinking organization. Someone who has worked in a city who is on the cutting edge of design, architecture, events, and technology. Please go find a HIGHLY qualified invdividual with credentials.
That's not too much to ask is it? This city is in trouble and needs to be revived. It needs someone to breath life into this place and bring it out of the 20th Century.....
Who buys a half million dollar town home in this region? People with that kind of money certainly don't want to live in a town home.
What a terrible tragedy. The VPD has long had a police bicycle program. Why do we not see these officers out on bicycles anymore? I recall bicycles mounted on the trunks of patrol cruisers. I just don't see it anymore? Why is this? I agree that a fulltime presence of some sort needs to be the norm out there on that trail, and not just for the next few weeks. This should be a constant presence. The city built this thing, now they need to adequately protect it. It seems to me that a couple of officers assigned to all the parks would be a very wise move by this new Chief of Police they hired. With the addition of the skate park, ball fields, softball complex, Riverside, Ethel Lee, Ted Reed, and many other parks that go unattended and unprotected, the time is now.
"Ure added that the cancellation was a business decision to bring the stadium to the next level."
Please share. I am very interested to hear the plan Ure has to bring the stadium to the "Next Level".
Advocate can you please run a story on the future plans the City apprently has to hopefully improve and take Riverside Stadium to the "Next Level". This is exciting news Ure has shared.
Blah, blah, blah. VISD is a broken record. There always seems to be an excuse, or a new and improved plan. VISD refuses to to do what's necessary in order to ensure great schools. It is what it is. Talk to any VISD High School or Middle School Administrator, and talk to them candidly. If they were allowed to speak off the record they would all tell you that VISD upper administration (102 Profit Drive) has them handcuffed. They need to be given permission to go in and just clean house! Sure, VISD will take a lump on the accountability ratings for a few years, but at this point who cares? It's not like you can get any worse..... They already are unacceptable, and as long as VISD operates with this same old mentality, your Victoria schools will continue to exist in the state of complete and utter embarrassing failure that they have been for way too long. It's time for some tough love.
Terrible move city.....but then again is anyone surprised. Thank you Friends!
