Um, gal 52223, not entirely sure what you mean... Aprill, I agree that adults do tend to overreact about things in a well-meaning but occassionally misguided attempt at protecting children from themselves and others. I am (as you know), protective of my daughter but I try to be level-headed about these things. You know, let her know I disapprove and the consequences of these actions, including damaged reputation, being picked on and/or ostracized by her peers, and possible death by mother. :) I also try to be understanding and realize that she's just learning who she is and is still growing into an adult and with that comes some growing pains, mistakes, whatever you want to call them. I think we as adults need to remember that we were once teens adn that our parents didn't kill us or condemn us or punish us for a bahjillion years for the mistakes we made. In a related note, Thanks Dad. I love you. I'll try to keep your teachings in mind while raising my daughter.
LOL, Riverboat! That's great!
Hey, this is a big event for us Gen Xers too! I think that this election and subsequent Inauguration were HUGE, no matter how old you are. It just feels different...like this could be the best thing or the worst thing that has happened, depending on who you voted for. I watched it live online [thank you Facebook and CNN] and my daughter got to watch it at school. Even at her age, she has a fairly good understanding of how monumental this is. And when she tells her grandchildren about it, I'm sure she'll throw in a line or two about me being there. Thanks to the beauty of live web broadcasts, I was...and you'll never convince me otherwise. Ha!
Well, let's see. It's hard for me to give my nominations as I haven't seen all the movies. For whatever reason, this area doesn't get a lot of these movies until AFTER the darn awards have been handed out. Sigh. Anyway, based on the movies I've seen/read about/heard about/seen clips for/been given reviews of by friends, here are some of my guesses: Best Actor: Clint Eastwood, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Mickey Rourke and the guy from Slumdog Millionaire whose name escapes me at the moment [long shot: Will Smith, Dustin Hoffman and Leo DiCaprio] Best Actress: Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and maybe Angelina Jolie and Rebecca Hall [I think that's the last name] [long shot: Kiera Knightley] Director: Sam Mendes, Ron Howard, Clint Eastwood, and the directors of Slumdog Millionaire and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Possibly even the guy who directed The Wrestler. [long shot: Spike Lee for Miracle at St. Anna] Supporting Actor: James Franco [for Milk, not Pineapple Express], Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Josh Brolin, possibly Robert Downey Jr. [it would be so awesome if he won for Tropic Thunder!!] and probably Heath Ledger Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, [long shot: Rosario Dawson] [super long shot: Paris Hilton for Repo: the Genetic Opera --- KIDDING]
Off the top of my head, that's what I got. Maybe if I think about it some more, I'll come up with a few additions/subtractions/changes.
If that "Cowboys source" had the last name of Jones, I'd be more willing to believe it.

This is just ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. I was terrorized by things in my childhood [like the boogeyman], but never by fairy tales. They helped fuel my imagination and allowed me to escape for a few minutes into magical places full of people having adventures and doing wonderful things. I've read them to my nieces and nephews as well as my own daughter and none of them has had one nightmare or been scarred in any shape, form or fashion. I cannot imagine a world of no fairy tales. What's next? Banning Dr. Suess because Green Eggs & Ham could encourage kids to eat moldy food? GAHHHHHH!! Oh and I, too, used to tell my daughter I would sell her to the gypsies if she didn't behave...until she told me they'd just sell her back. LOL.
I think it's a bit of both. Spencer was drinking and wanted the party to continue and got mad when it stopped, like some young people do. He's not really worried about it, cause compared to some of his teammates [and former ones, cough, Pacman, cough], it's just another day in the life. He needed some way to amp up his status on the team, didn't he? And yes, a part of the fan in me just died typing that. Sigh. It's tough to be a fan these days. Billy, you're killing me. :)
What about bad patch jobs? Those can be almost as bad as potholes. I used to drive down Delmar, between North Street and the Port Lavaca Highway, but have avoided that stretch of road for quite some time as the untrained monkeys they hired to "fix" the potholes only made the problem worse. Oh and I know it doesn't quality for your blog as it's not a city road, but whoever patched the back part of the mall's parking lot [the lanes in the corner behind JC Penney's salon entrance] needs to find a new line of work. That is quite possibly the worst patch job in history. It's so bad that only a few days after it reopened, they closed it again and repatched it -- WHICH ONLY MADE IT THAT MUCH WORSE.
Yeah, I was up in time to see the frost [and the moon], but way earlier than 630. Thanks Sandman for bringing my kiddo yet another nightmare and ruining her sleep and mine.
