Thank you VicAd Editorial Board for seeing the actual facts. The "touch and go" landings at 42 an hour will be horrible for those living within a few miles of the place. The Navy isn't going to be relocating to Berclair or Goliad - they won't be spending money there. They are merely going to touch down and then fly off. All we get is the noise and the 130,000 tons of air pollution. Chase Naval Air station was closed, use their runways, don't bully the people of Goliad. Especially the ones who bought property there after the Navy sold it to Goliad County. They built homes in the peace and quiet of the area, not to the sound of jets landing 500 times a day. The lack of compassion and insight from the Victoria people posting here is sickening.

Did you miss the part where it says 500 touch and goes a day? Or the 130,000 TONS of pollution? I imagine that none of the Goliad residents who are for this project are the ones that live near Berclair. Everytime there is some controversy like this, the folks who are not affected by it in the least are the first ones to mention money. Money money money money. Why do you think its always about the money? With UEC its about the water, with the Navy its about pollution and quality of life. Its not about the money. Get your priorities straight - MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING.
You know what we like about Goliad? That is stays small and people mind their own darn business.
Why don't some of you try it some time?
If we don't want the Navy in here, they should stay the heck out.
Bigger isn't always better.
Nice job VISD. Let's not expose the kids to the freakin PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
No wonder Texas is the freakin laughingstock of the entire world.
Yes, the entire world. Not just the U.S., though plenty of people laugh at us from our own country for our foolish stupidity and blatant racism AND political games.
Gawd forbid the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES should tell kids that school is valuable and they should work hard. Just more socialist crap, right? Wish you parents would pay more attention to the other stuff your kids hear, like parents bashing the President because he's bi-racial or calling him a Kenyan or even their parents being bigoted against Muslims or minorities.
Oh yeah, so much worse to hear, "Stay in School and Work Hard."
I'm sorry, is there really a choice between industry growth and clean air? I know its all about the allmighty dollar, but come on, Texas is so bad on this issue that the EPA had to come in to regulate our permits. Is there a choice between company profits and clean air?No. A thousand times NO.
Replacement child? No - its not possible to replace a child like a broken toy.
Another child to help fill the terrible void left by losing a child?Absolutely. Its hard enough to live with the loss - having another child to focus on helps by giving you a chance to parent.
Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves, talking such trash.
Do you remember when UHV was a 4 school room college branch of UH Central? This University - the ONLY one within driving distance for 12 counties - has educated thousands of students each year (check the enrollment) and has grown tremendously in the last 20 years through dedication to the students and growing the university.
The new freshman class is not even attending yet and y'all gripe about a lack of student bodies and forget all the $$ spent inside Victoria and generated by UHV.
How can you be so short-sighted and non-supportive of this institution? Not to mention ungrateful. Remember when there was no local university for local students?
Apparently you do not remember or don't care about the availability of an excellent institution of higher education being available for students - especially those who cannot afford to live in high priced dorms and apartments at over-priced universities.
I'm sorry Mr. Carter, its easy to live in Victoria County and say,"You can't stand still. You can't go backwards," and "America's got to grow."
You don't have to drink our water.
We're not going to save America with one uranium mine but we can save Goliad County by stopping this mining.
Why the heck do you care, Mr. Carter, if we get more jobs in Goliad when it is apparent that jobs are not the focus of our concern? We don't have to grow... we like Goliad as it is.
You have a lot of nerve trying to tell us what we HAVE to do.
Not much luck or prowess in choosing Office Managers.
First you-know-who and now someone involved in a lawsuit?
Certainly tells you plenty.
Amazing how the TCEQ has decided that mining is in the public interest, even though the public has mounted a legal defense and has challenged them in every way.
Negative aspects, such as the possible contamination of an entire aquifer were "considered ... in a general way.."?
When the public is screaming, "No in situ mining in our aquifer," I would think Murray would understand that the public interest lies in preventing the mining.
So, apparently Murray has not considered the public interest one whit and is focused on the mining business interest.
So much for working for the PEOPLE of Texas.
