Some people choose to be poor, And some people who do everything right have no choice in the matter. For example, I have a friend who is married and now has a 1 year old child. He has a masters and a bachelors degree, she has two master degrees. They were very well off probably making over $150k a year then they were both laid off about a month apart, while she was pregnant. Their unemployment benifits have since run out, their savings are almost gone, thier home sold for a loss, and they are down to only one car. They applied for food stamps, wic and tanf this last Friday. So please remember not everyone who gets one of those cards so that "they can eat better than those without it" actually even want it. Some are extreemly embarresed that they have one at all.

I believe I stated this was happening some time ago but the story is just now being brought to attention. What can be done? The docs for one can get off thier high horse and end thier god complex and the upper people at Gulf Bend can start to actually defend their employees, they brown nose too much with the docs here who do nothing but send people to state hospitals instead of actually trying to be a doctor.
Nice decade old story reporting there...if the problem was that bad then why is there a proposed nuclear plant for the same town these rusty barrels are in?

The point being that more than just people from victoria read this paper. People in surrounding counties have just read dont come here go there. Also people who may be traveling through and looking for something to do in the area just read the same thing.
