The proposed site for the plant was chosen for a reason. I'm pretty confident that City Council did not get together and decide on the location to make citizens unhappy or to put them in any harm. The fact is that the City of Victoria NEEDS the new sewer plant. If the proposed site were on the north side of town and the City had to run additional sewer pipe, the Citizens of Victoria would be complaining about that cost too. I'll admit, by the sound of it, the Willow Street plant is horrible. That's why we need the new and improved plant. It's time to move on in this process. It's the "concerned citizens" that are making this process way more expensive than it should be.

I believe that the fire hydrants are flushed to keep the water lines clean. If the City didn't keep clean waterlines, we would have nasty water coming from our faucets and then there would be alot of people complaining about that.
ajt20m....I do appreciate everything the VPD and VFD do for our City. They do work very hard and they do put their lives on the line. They are also in higher paid brackets in the City. And as far as the Utilities Dept. goes...they do come and turn your water off andIf the leak is on your end, that's your deal....if the issue is on the City's side, they will fix it,asap!
So, Pappy...when you have a water leak in the middle of the night, is the VFD or VPD going to come turn your water off so your house doesn't flood? Don't think so....It will be someone from the Utility Dept? When a water main breaks and you don't have water, who's going to fix it in the middle of the night. The men in the Utility Dept do work on-call and btw....their on-call is 24/7/365 as well.
Pitbullsrock....I'm not saying that I disagree with you. I just don't think that paying Health Insurance Premiums is they way to go and if they choose that route, then every dept. needs to be included. Employees are given a cost of living "raise" as well as pay for performance raises up to I believe 5%. I do think that the payscale should be evaluated for FD and PD and the starting pay should be increased. As far as licensing and certifications, you are correct when you say that not everyone has one and the ones that do are payed more. Sorry I was not very clear in my earlier post.
I think the Fire Dept and Police Dept are well deserving of a raise. Having health insurance premiums paid for by the City...I'm not so sure. I find it alittle unfair that 2 depts would have premiums paid and not the other depts. Granted, the Fire and PD put their lives on the line each day but in return the Men and Women from the other depts work hard as well and most in any type of weather. I agree with Victoriagirl....My husband works in the Utility Dept and he has to have certain license and also has to attend CE courses. I'm sure that the workers from the Street, Environmental Services, Parks, etc etc have to do the same. Everyone should be treated fairly. If you really think about it, all of our City Employees work hard to make Victoria the beautiful city that it is.
I know there is an article in VA that says Samantha "Diane" Sell's body was escorted through Victoria around 9:30 lastnight. She was a Marine so, that may explain all of the Military Helicopters. I don't know for sure...just guessing. It would make sense tho.
Congratulations John! Such an accomplishment and the fact that you never gave up....WOW, that's all I can say. Hopefully this story will inspire others to never give up and to know that no matter, what you can live your dreams.Congrats again!
Well said and I agree 100%. It's a very sad situation.
I agree with the point you have CG23Sailor of "being up the City's backside". To everyone else who thinks i'm taking the City's side let me say this....If the City is at fault, they should pay and visa versa, if the gas company was at fault, they should pay. I NEVER said that the City shouldn't pay. I'm not a heartless person and I can't imagine what these people are going through. What I did say, is that the City shouldn't be responsible for paying the homeowner $140,000. I just think it is greedy for someone to ask for so much when he should be thankful that the City is doing what they are doing. No, I don't think it is right that the renters got all of that money...they should have had renters insurance. I think the City has been generous in what they have done. I'm not going back on my prior post just trying to clarify my point.
