Thumbs up VictorianResident for doing some "digging." I didn't know she herself called the Advocate and requested the interview. I don't know anybody involved in this case and have nothing against those involved but it seems pretty silly that they would reassign her without good (enough) reason. I think it's a little much when I see cars driving around town with "We (heart) DJ" written on their windows.
I really enjoyed this blog. Makes me want to go check out TurkeyFest!
Icantcook, No offense to your situation but I know for a fact not all guardianships cost what you've spent. There are cases where some are VERY easy to come by. In fact, I had a friend who took guardianship of her nephew and all it took was the mother signing a form, no big money lawyers or anything. I think those are the cases vdoreex was referring to.
EdithAnn, I am not "mouthing off" about "folks monkeying around with addresses." I'm simply stating what Ms. Baugh readily and voluntarily admits to on today's front page about relocating her family to the west side for the purpose of her daughter being on the drill team. I'm sure this goes on very much, but when someone readily (and foolishly in my opinion) admits to this illegal practice, then something should be done! I am in the process of contacting the school board or whoever else I need to to bring this to their attention.
I don't know Ms. Jayes, nor Ms. Franklin, but if what is being said is true, then there are alot of issues that need to be looked into. If Ms. Jaynes misused funds, then it is right she be reprimanded and punished. If Ms. Franklin used a fake address just to go to the school she wanted to, then that needs to be looked into too. Isn't it supposed to be illegal or really frowned upon for someone to move for the sole purpose of their child getting on a "team?" Because in the article in today's paper, Ms. Baugh freely admits moving her family to the west side of town just so her daughter could be a member of the drill team. Or is that just ok for certain "people?" I would be looking into that issue as well, VISD. If you want people to follow rules, policies, and guidelines, then you gotta be able to enforce punishment or penalization when people don't!
After reading some of the comments posted, I do agree that parents need to shoulder most of the repsonsibility for how their kids dress. I'm so tired of seeing these sleazy looking tight clothes that young women wear, and at the same time, I absolutely hate seeing a boy with his pants pulled so low and baggy that his underpants are visible. However, the school district DOES need to do a better job of enforcing the dress code. When I have gone into my daughter's middle school to leave her lunch or homework, it absolutely appalls me that certain girls (i.e., daughters of teachers/school staff) are able to get away with wearing the tiniest shorts/skirts/revealing blouses but everyone else is held to a stricter standard!
April, I could not agree with you more. I actually halfway respected her for at least standing her ground on the issue of gay marriage, and not buckle to pressure and say something she didn't believe just for the sake of winning a stupid pageant. But this topless stuff just brought her way down. And yeah, I wish she would just go away! She didn't even win! Not to mention that I think it's inexcusable that Donald Trump allowed her to keep her crown. But Miss Nevada 2006 was stripped of her crown. And yes, I am a Paris, Nicole, Octomom hater too. Lol.
A big problem is that these teenagers were born to teenage mothers themselves. It is such a vicious circle that keeps repeating itself and the age at which girls are getting pregnant nowadays just keeps getting younger and younger. I had my first child at 19, my second one at 21, and my last one at 23. Even at those ages, I was totally unprepared to have a child and had no business having them. BUT I had a very supportive family who were there for me, but also made me see that I needed to take care of my chidren. I did not pawn them off on my parents, like alot of the kids these days do. The problem all starts with the parents...
I am surprised at the ignorace and naivete of some of the Obama bashers. I guess you people are the ones who believe EVERYthing you hear on the internet, huh?
I am a proponent of tough discipline, even if it calls for spanking. My parents spanked me when I was younger and let me tell you, it works! It also worked for my brothers; we grew up respecting authority, even when we didn't necessarily agree with it and my brothers are some of the most respectful young men I know, especially in this day and age. Too many youngsters out there just run around with no boundaries, and able to do whatever they want to do.
