First of all, I am not involved with the Drill Team in any way. I am commenting because this whole process reminds me of a very similar situation a family member experienced with VISD a couple of years ago .

I believe there is a big difference between micromanaging and having a system of checks and balances. I recall an Advocate quote some time ago from the previous board president, although I cannot recall his exact words, it was something to the effect of “If the superintendent wanted the board to know of a problem, he would inform us”. I just don’t believe that. Not with this administration. With that type of mindset, why do we need a sitting school board? Just continue to allow all decisions to come from the top.

I will admit that I don’t know if this particular situation is a good indicator of how effective our current school board really is. From past experience though, the board’s action or inaction seems to be a recurring theme.

I know a lot of you will beg to differ with my comment. Like most things in our life, we form opinions based on personal perspective. From my perspective, some in VISD administration do not conduct themselves as professionally as we are led to believe.

Job security should not be an unfair expectation, provided we do the things we are supposed to do. Of course there are situations, such as the current economy, that are outside of our control that can impact our employment.

That is not the case with VISD. I’m not referring to administration, they seem to have job security. I am referring to the statement made by VISD’s attorney during Mrs. Jaynes’ hearing, that VISD has the right to reassign anyone at anytime and does not have to justify it. You do the things that you are supposed to do, but you are never really secure in your position? It may be written on a contract, but how is that for job security.

And to the Advocate. You may have the power to print your viewpoint and say what you wish, but keep in mind that there are people out here that can form their own thoughts and opinions. It seems that you are saying not to question a decision if it comes from someone of authority. That is a scary thought.

LocalGirl, I’m not sure when and how I became known as the grand supporter of allowing anyone to come into my country illegally. I never made a single reference to that being the case. I thought where I was coming from was pretty obvious, so I don’t feel the need to further explain that point.

And the hay bale comparison wasn’t really an apples to apples comparison at all, it was just my attempt at being sarcastical (I know that’s not really a word).

So before anyone else tries to proclaim me the “Imperial Wizard of Illegal Entries”, please remember that I am in the court of not favoring it either.

I can’t play here any more, my yard is in dire need of attention.

I get it N45, if you’re not with us you’re with the terrorist’s right? I guess all crime ever committed you can now attribute to those damn illegal’s. It’s a bit of a stretch to compare what you just posted with an American lawfully driving on a city street. But hey, I have had hay bales in the back of my truck. Guilty, I guess, pull me over.

I do agree with one of your comments. Why don’t we enforce the laws we currently have in place?

Nice attempt at trying to make me look like a criminal protecting low life though.

Pilot I know you are not naïve enough to believe that law enforcement only pulls over people that they think are breaking the law. Even if you said you could guarantee it, what would you base your opinion on? I was stopped one evening because the officer thought I had come too close to a curb. And no, I don’t own a low rider (unless a Vette counts) and I do not wear baggy jeans and blue or red shirts because I’m a blood or a crip. Not that I need you to believe me, but the fact is it wasn’t true. I was allowed to go, but then again I shouldn’t have been stopped to begin with.

Our home was broken into a few years ago and our television was stolen. My oldest son noticed our set in the street as he drove into our neighborhood and called the police. Our son waited by the set and when the police arrived they came at him with guns pointed “at him.” So I’m a little concerned that not all officers are built the same.

I’m not a cop hater by any means. I have relatives that are in law enforcement. I also know that I am not going to change your opinion with anything I have to say. But if the shoe were on the other foot you might feel a little differently. I guess we will never know for sure though will we?

  • RickGomez

I’m not going to stick my head in the sand and make believe there are not people entering our country “illegally”. There is no doubt that something needs to be done about it. I just have a problem with allowing law enforcement the option of pulling me over simply because of the color of my skin. And don’t think for a minute that some in law enforcement are not opportunistic enough to use this bill as an excuse to stop whomever they want and whenever they want. I honestly believe everyone posting here is a lot smarter than that. If I am breaking the law, well hell yes, pull me over. But to do so solely because of my appearance is not the answer. And don’t ask me what the right answer is, our own Federal Government can’t come up with that.

Some of you have stated that “legal Hispanics” shouldn’t have a problem providing identification if they have nothing to hide. Well, no truer words could be spoken by a group of people that obviously will not be targeted. I am as much of an American as any one of you.

On second thought I do have an idea. Why not a bill that would allow law enforcement to stop those whom appear to be of Italian descent? After all, some may be involved with the MOB. Or how about stopping persons that appear to be of Czech descent, some of them may be having a cool one while they are driving. Wow, now I sound racist don’t I? I guess we are not all that different after all.

And for the record I'm not going to hide behind a made up name, I'm in the phone book all legal like.

I don’t have to work for VISD to see how Bob Moore handles his business. In fact, I have seen firsthand how Bob Moore handles his business. Just be glad you have not been the target of one of Mr. Moore's chosen few.

And to be clear, the person I am referring to is not afraid to work hard and is not one of the complainers. Not everyone is treated as fairly as you believe by VISD's leader. In my opinion character should be one of the criteria in voting someone "Best Superintendant."

Thank you for the years of service Mr. Walden and congratulations to Mr. Michael DiSanto. I have had the priviledge of working with Mr. DiSanto for a number of years now and am proud to call him a friend. We could not have asked for an individual with more integrity and a sense for what is right to sit on our School Board.

Tommy T. I respect the heck out of you man but I know Ralph for what he is. When he had the opportunity to help someone out he wouldn't man up but rather tucked tail and ran. His explanation was that it "Was'nt about him". The real story is that he didn't want to risk his standing with M. Finley and Bob Moore.

So the statement about being fair to everyone and building trust rings pretty hollow with me.

The coaches that are not in the "Golf Club" better watch their backs. The new AD certainly won't.

  • RickGomez

johndill: Mr. McCormick sounds like a very capable candidate for the AD job. I especially like your comment about bringing in someone that will come in unbiased and not aligned with anyone. I believe those to be among the qualities that are lacking with current Athletic Dept. leadership.

While experience and past accomplishments certainly open the door, I can’t say that anyone is a clear choice based solely on a resume. That is why the interview process is so critical. I just hope that VISD conducts the interview process fair and impartially. All of the candidates deserve at least that. If the comments about Mr. McCormick are valid, he couldn’t help but be a top candidate. We are all aware of the recent decision made by the Superintendant to anoint Mickey Finley the head coaching job at one of the new schools. I’m somewhat skeptical that the decision of who will be the new AD was not made at the same time. I guess we will see.

One more thing CMON. I'm working today, so I won't be able to see your witty and well constructed reply until this afternoon.
