I am very much interested to hear more about Emmett's participation as Treasurer of the Outreach Word Academy's gross miss management of funds. As a board member, and certainly as Treasurer, he had a fiduciary responsibility to properly direct the finances of that organization.
If he can't properly manage the finances of an organization that he is treasurer of, then how can he be trusted to make good decisions as a Councilman?
Thank you VA for running this article. Even after tort reform, there is still lawsuit abuse. This is a classic example of what is wrong with our system.
If I am reading it right, we have an unwed mother that is overweight and diabetic. It is a safe bet that she provided poor prenatal care to her child. Thanks to Medicaid, she probably didn't pay a dime for this delivery. Her only real contribution to this situation is getting knocked up. Therefore, according to the attorny, she can have no responsibility, everything has to be the doctor's fault!
The irony is, any health care costs that the kid might have is currently being paid for by Medicaid. So what future costs is she going to have?
The doctor was put into a difficult situation due to Ms. Flores' laundery list of bad personal decisions. At some point, Ms. Flores needs to look in the mirror and accept responisiblity. In the meantime, as others have pointed out, this is why health care costs continue to skyrocket.
Like everyone else said, the fireworks were awesome! Wade Bowen and Josh Abbott were great. The biggest surprise was Whiskey Myers Band....those guys can rock!
Spoke with several vendors, everyone of them had a successful event.
Victoria has been long overdue an event like this that can be done annually. Looks like Boot Fest is a winner.
I was there last night. It was really a lot of fun. I have no doubt that there were several thousand people there, everyone seemed to be having a good time. After Wade Bowen played (which was excellent) they set off a few fire works. Should be a great show tonite.....both music and fireworks.
I did not realize how many sponsors they had. Judging from all the banners, a bunch of the cost was underwritten by several local businesses. Between the sponsors and beer sales, I bet they cover their costs.
The TEA was extremely generous in letting them stay open this long. It appears that the TEA gave the academy every opportunity to get its finances in order. 9 years out of compliance! Really!! The TEA has exhibited a lot of patience here.
It's insulting that Mr. Phillips choses to play the victim card. He should be apologizing to the teachers and students that now have to deal with the repercussions of his poor management skills.
@jason--kind of a cryptic post. What kind of activities do you want to do? Its OK to throw ideas out there, our city management is not the KGB, you are in no danger.

I would think that someone jogging down Sam Houston would be more worried about getting run over than cracks in the concrete.

You bet I give to the United Way. I have seen first hand the difference United Way support can give to our local non profit agencies.
I would encourage everyone to give something to the United Way. By giving to the United Way, you are supporting about 20 local non profits.

Did I just read that correctly? Gabe Soliz's redistricting nominee recommended that Gabe be kicked out of his own district!? Classic!
