"Mr. Delaney, I know that the 'outing' of posters is prohibited by the rules of the forum. Why are the three comments by Mr. Hewitt, which state that Matt Ocker is banned poster 'Bundy', allowed to remain? Has this rule been changed or suspended?"

"Dear Mr. Delaney, I have a question which bears directly upon the upcoming race for Victoria County Judge in November. Only the Editors of the Victoria Advocate Staff can satisfy the issue. Prior to Matt Ocker being banned from the Victoria Advocate's website as a blogger, commentator, or poster of opinion, there were a considerable number of views expressed by Mr. Ocker which were subsequently deleted by the newspaper simultaneous with this decision. This body of opinion posted by Mr. Ocker constitutes an important record which, among other issues vital to the voter's knowledge of the candidate, will provide the public a means to weigh his judgement and state of mind within the context of the issues being discussed at that time. Mr. Ocker has employed other usernames, such as "Bundy" and others, which were also deleted along with the relevant postings, which should also be restored for the same reason. As Mr. Ocker freely shared his opinion, I cannot think of any reason why the restoration of his posting history should be denied. In addition, Mr. Ocker during the later phase of his comment history, was undeniably posting these comments as a means of promoting his public visibility and candidacy for office. Arguably, the Victoria Advocate was playing handmaiden to Mr. Ocker's efforts along these lines, which if true emphasises the public's need to access his opinion. As this material is already becoming important to informed discussion of Mr. Ocker's qualification to Victoria County's highest elective office (See the relevant thread to "Victoria County Judge's Candidates Face Off"), a present danger exists in the lack of a complete record. Those who support Mr. Ocker's candidacy are already questioning the validity of those who had the foresight to document the record prior to its' expungement by the Victoria Advocate, providing a cynical defence for what was both true and freely expressed by Mr. Ocker. If Mr. Pozzi was also subject to banishment and expungement of record by the Victoria Advocate, I would make the identical arguement on the public's behalf. Will the Editors of The Victoria Advocate reverse their prior decision and restore the full record with respect to the above? I would appreciate a response, especially in light of the upcoming candidate's debate and general election. Sincerely Yours, Robert J. Hewitt, Jr. One O'Connor Plaza-suite 1100 Victoria, Texas 77901-6549 USA hewittjr@mac.com "

"Mr. Delaney, I am guessing you are the person to address this to, if not could you please direct me to who is. I seem to have had a comment removed and the funny thing is, that supposedly I removed it myself! Since I have not deleted any of my own comments and since I have not posted anything remotely mean or nasty or in any other way that I know of violated the policy on posting, could you explain what happened? Thanks."

"Mr. Delaney. After thinking about the VA position on the smoking ban( since the archives are gone with the new website), I believe you are correct. However, if I remember correctly, the VA editorial board straddled the fence on the issue. Indeed the opinion was not a endorsement of the the smoking ban, I seem to remember language , and I am paraphrasing... Although we respect the rights of business owners, we also respect the rights of patron and employees. If I am incorrect on what I remember, I apologize. "
