A recent open records request reveals that the 2012 wage for the CEO (Vanek) is $61.90/hr; the assistant director, $50.25/hr. These hourly are up 3% from 2011.
The average number of inpatients (patients in the hospital) daily is 5.7. The Lavaca County Hospital District's hospital is a 25-bed facility.
For 2012, the employees of the district (137 FTE) received a 3% increase in group insurance. All insurance premiums for the employees is paid for by the district--I mean by the taxpayers of the district.
The district is in the process of rennovating and adding to the existing facility to the tune of $4,72,005.40. Did the district give the voters of the district an oppotunity to vote on this--NO! The costs will be paid via a loan--a kind of line-of-credit account. The interest rate of this account is unknown at this time.
Thank you, Will, for recognizing this propoganda statement. Folks, this highway is about government making money. Period. It is time we, as the People, stand up and say this is wrong. Government does not need to be in the business of making money.
Just because the home value didn't go up, it does NOT mean the land value didn't go up. People should always request a copy of their appraisal card to review it EACH YEAR for accuracy!
Has ANYONE asked the question of our state rep, Geanie Morrison, on the filing of this bill?
Who requested her to make this change? Was it people/businesses of Victoria, or was it someone like alumni, Governor Rick Perry?
How does this change affect the future cutbacks of the existing colleges in Texas?
Thank you GoliaChicka, money is NOT everything. This issue has been going on for a while. The county commissioners court has engaged the people and the people have said no. I don't know where the folks on this posting have been. It is not a sign of being unpatriotic just because folks don't want this--shame on those who have accused this.
There is no need to work with Goliad County for any kind of deal. THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTY HAVE SPOKEN, and that should be the end of it. I love your description of the Navy: bullying--it is definitely the description of many government entites.
One of the main problems about not controlling the feral hog population is a result of the ridiculous rules about transporting the hogs once they are caught. The Texas Animal Health Commission implemented these unnecessary rules in 2008. These rules need to be abolished.
Will this paper let the public know if/when these taxes have been paid? This is the real end of the story; otherwise, the taxes due will be tacked on to the potential buyers of the property...
This article is pure propaganda. It is important to remember the original PROPOSED budget offered to the court by the judge had a rate of 54.57 cents per $100 value. It is a reasonable question to ask: Why in the world would the judge present a budget to the court he turns around and votes down?---oh, yea, it is an election year!
I was in the second meeting referenced above. It was a joke about the "2" options the judge presented to the court. Many options were presented by the public--none of which made the original article or this one.
The option 2 that was voted on, 52.57 cents, just reduced the budget by $392,000. This budget could have been cut by at least $1MM--that is how much the budget is padded.
This judge has to go!
Voters, be sure to vote using a paper ballot! Also, solicit your county government to get rid of the "flipping" electronic voting machines!
