I know you believe that we have been stealing articles from the caller all season, but it's not true. We have set it up for a writer to be there and paid them every time. It just happens the caller used the same writer to string the games in some cases. When we didn't have a stringer, our short articles came from the Calhoun statistician calling in the stats and our guys on the desk wrote up a brief on the game.

The score was Edna 25, Goliad 7. We will have a correction in Sunday's paper.

St. Joseph has been covered just as much as Memorial this season. Jack Molitor wrote a feature story and an advance for today's game against Houston Second Baptist. I wrote a story for Sunday's paper on John Mares' 100th win. That is three stories on the Flyers just this week. If my math backs me up, that means we've wrote three stories on the Flyers this week and two about Memorial.
Ringer - By your last statement, you're probably not going to like my story that will run in Tuesday's paper about the Vipers. It leads with Jared Dolezal and I talked with O.J. Hughes. Believe me, I know it takes an entire team to win and even to participate in sports. It's a long season, and I assure you, almost everyone on the team will be interviewed by me at some point in the season.
They took every precaution possible. They took a lot of water breaks, were in the shade when they weren't working out and spent time inside where there was air conditioning. Next week the team will practice in the evening. There is no time that is going to be cool, but Finley and the staff are doing a great job of making sure the kids are safe.
Correction - Mark Hudson went 4-for-4 with three singles and a double. Not sure where I got that he had two doubles and three triples. Not my best late-night moment.
Final: Hallettsville 3, Early 0. Hallettsville plays Brock at 11 a.m. Saturday for the Class 2A state championship.
