What if a person has a documented genetic/metabolic disorder whereby lack of ornithine and other enzymes prevent the mitochondria and the related pathways to the fatcells being blocked and a specialist recognizes it and it is recognized by the federal government as a rare disease and considered a disability? Preventing such an applicant from being hired if they are best qualified seems like discrimination of a handicapped person. This hospital could then owe big fines and settlement to the applicant. Perhaps those who have disabilities but are able to work around them should apply and then a huge law suite be filed. This is a county hospital and is suppose to reflect its citizenry. Whomever invoked these policies needs a great big konk on head and a boot out the door.
When I first heard the story as a newflash lead in to TV news my only passing comment was way to go Dad. After reading several sources that distill the criminal actions by a 3rd party, I can understand a father rushing to his small child and extinguishing the monster attacking the child. I read where some talked to and fro on the castle defense. I wonder if it applies to a child trying to stand their ground and having a surrogate step in and react and protect them on their own property?
What if the third party had panicked and strangled the child? What would we be saying? A four year old cannot by the laws of physics protect themselves from a grown man. Therefore it should be no crime for a surrogate to become the child's living representative, and perform any and all duties necessary to preserve life and mental stability of the child. If that second person fails the child in such instances, then they are just as guilty as the person performing the primary crime. Second chances and probations should not be an option in the adult's lives. The child was not even given an option.
I want a person who would step in if something was happening to my child. The problem today is too much of the public grab the phones and start taking videos and pictures instead of stepping in and protecting the child. Our society does not need these people.
As with children's molestations, many adults including parents, family and friends turn their back and walk away forever creating scars on the body and in the victims mind. This father apparently did what most of the adults don't have the guts to do. So, again if all facts are true, he should be hailed as a hero for his child and community.
[Any of you that think that sexual deviants do not live near you, should go to the State of Texas webpages and look at Victoria county very closely. Look at how many people are identified as sex-related criminals and many are multiple offenders. (some were fathers and sons --a bad habit to pass to your children). Such criminals may be closer to your children than you think. What I don't understand the last time I looked and I hope it changed is that there were several clusters living in the same neightborhood, mobile home park, or apartments. Are there halfway houses from prison? Is there more than one in Victoria? I thought it was law that they were not suppose to congregate together.... ]
I believe in God and go to church....however it seems sometimes that man fails to realize the truths ---God did not write the books within the bibles, men did. And men decided which books or sermons would or would not appear. And depending on your religious bend, your bible may be different than others three times over. Your belief's can be based on any volumonous book. All of these are written by man. They may have been inspired by spiritual beings, but they were written by men.
Learn meditation or send your mind to a remote place as you receive your injections. Also relax. Being tense makes them worse. If you are relaxed, the needle goes in easier.

It is amazing how many Americans kinow just exactly what to do with "other" people's money. That has been the issue for a long time with liberals. They do not want their money touched, but they do want the collective rich to pay for what ever is necessary.
Give me a break. Fify years of hearing this has lead us to this point in history. Spend Spend Spend does not get you out of debt. Printing more money doesn't help either. Our current president is an embarrassment to America as a whole. It is more important to him to play golf, have hip hop parties in the white house, have movie nights, and keep spending like someone who has never been in public, in a suit, much less held a job --oh wait he never has really worked. He keeps having his little temper tantrums, whining and pointing fingers, and saying I want, I want.
Folks we need to pull our belts tight. If you got a copy machine and printed more money --you'd be arrested. So why isn't he everytime he raises the debt ceiling, instead of controlling costs and living within a budget. We have not had a budget in 2 years. Why not? It is about time. All the rest of us have to live by them.
Who thunk up the slogan about bring your boots? Is all we want to advertise is cows or rednecks? I even heard a song on a store PA in Houston a male was singing bring your boots to Victoria.
Come on.....who got the money for that. As for a river walk. Think how often we flood...you know...get wet from the river. Let's becareful and not make ourselves a New Orleans that now is a few streets and the rest is outlaw land.
Every venue discussed, all the larger cities all ready have. I don't think Victoria is ready to take them on for sports.
This is a utopian idea that has been tried in communes. This is also why American children are behind other ethnicities in intelligence and education within our own education system. In the Houston chronicle a mother recently wrote a blog about how the Asian families of chilren that were making A's still had tutors. There is absolutely no room for unintelligence. The author was discussing on how she was going to have to ramp up on her children's education process so that they would be prosperous.
I have to disagree with your idea. I was given tests and one other person and myself topped classes all the way to the fifth grade. I then moved. I know she went on to do great things. I had a fantastic career out of town. I am thankful that the teachers did not water us down waiting on all the other students that were just normal. We were given special educational projects and lots of books to read. (not my fault other kids could not get it the first time around and parents failed to participate in their children's homework. The school would beg parents to come to school and learn what their children were doing so they could support them.) Karen's parents were with her every afternoon. So was my mother while my father worked.
This idea of feel good give a child an A and a ribbon is not the real world. Try working in a real company and getting by with that. In fact we had some employees in a company of 1300 that had been raised where everyone received ribbons, etc. When the first personnel reductions began ---they were the first to go. Those people had no concept of how to buckle down in lean times and work, really struggle. They did not want to give up an hour lunch to a 30 minute lunch. Short breaks. limited raises. They hated reviews, they believed as long as you came to work you should get a raise every year even though they had contributed nothing to the company as specified in their job description.
Just like now. The truth may be cruel. We need to buckle down and gain as much as an education as we can. As for homeschoolers, I know of some that recently bypassed several grades because of the great job the parents were doing and the poor job the public school was doing. That same thing happened to my mother, her sister and two brothers that were home schooled. When measured, their education far surpassed their age.
Therefore, I don't accept this concept of letting our children ride and slide on their education. Our economy and politics and our lack of educated people is taking the US to the level of a grass mat.
If the idea had worked. The Utopia communes in Europe and the United States would have thrived and this would be a mute discussion.
Face it the traffic has picked up from the south all points north. As more buses crowd the roads it only seems normal there will be a wreck. As for the trucks pulling a truck or a car. There have been groups for at least 15 years that go to the East Texas auctions, buy the autos and take them back to Mexico. Because they travel in caravans, I have marveled over the years that there have not been more wrecks.
So this is just one of those things in the universe that happened. May never happen again between the two modes of operation.
Now as for the buses themselves. They do not necessarily meet US standards --that is why there have been wrecks, such as the ones that burned to death the people from the nursing home in Houston when they were up near Dallas. There have been wrecks of this sort all over the US. Unless we change the laws that were political in nature and in favor of Mexico--wrecks will continue.
I will say they have had investigators from time to time swarm the operators in Houston---but only have a huge tragic accident with the loss of many lives, not just one. Politics are cold.
Yes, I think so if it would not put me at risk. There is not much you can donate and still have parts left. Now after I am dead, they can go for anything they want...
