Yes, there are 2 sides to every story, but only one side is alive to tell it. I wonder if Ms. Brown would have written this if she had seen the videotape of Mr. Zimmerman arriving at the police station in handcuffs (arrested) which does not show a bloody, battered man. She is being partisan about a questionable incident that resulted in a young man's death. Is there any wonder why African-Americans feel race played a part in this man not being charged and judged in court?

Are you familiar with the drive to "get money out" of politics? I think that's what it's going to take for "the people" to be the focus of government and not the current situation of being beholden to the corporations that finance the outrageously expensive campaigns.

If everything is great that employees were rewarded, why did the health department cut staff and fire a 12-year inspector? I guess all the restaurants don't need inspecting anymore.
Some of you need to read the story of Joe Zamudio, one of the heroes who subdued the shooter, but first was ready to shoot the wrong man. He ran out with his gun, safety off, ready to shoot if necessary and saw a man with a gun, only that man was the one who had already disarmed the gunman. Zamudio said he didn't draw his own weapon because he didn't want to be targeted as a second shooter.
There was no increase in the Social Security cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) because the consumer price index (CPI) did not increase. It has been this way since 1975. It has nothing to do with what politicians are in office.
