Well..... the people on this forum have been saying for years that there is ramped corruption throughout Victoria..... Guess they were on to something!!!
As the parent of a student at East High School let me say: I was blissfully unaware of the situation until I read it in the paper. I had a call from VISD on my caller ID at home and since I do not have an answering machine, I chewed my poor son up one side and down the other... What did you do? Did you get ISS? Were you tardy? Why is the school calling? I was ready to go to the school Monday to see if my kid was in trouble... When I found out that the school was sending out a mass recorded message, I was a bit relieved to know my son wasn't in trouble.
Initially, I was upset about the fact that we weren't notified earlier, but after reading the comments here, realize that there was nothing for the parents to do as the school officials had the situation fully under control. When questioned, my son was also blissfully unaware of the brouhaha.
I try to be a good parent... I try to know what my son is up to... I invade his privacy and set limits and boundaries. Some days, he hates me for it.... but I tell him: I'm not your friend. I am not your equal, and you are not mine. I am a parent and I love you enough to let you hate me!!!!
Only 17% turn out? That's shameful!
Hope she is found safe!
Mrs. Jaynes: I am sorry you are having to go through this b.s. and having your name sullied as fodder for gossip! After more than 30 years with this school district and leading the Drill Team to how many national championships, and inspiring COUNTLESS teenage girls to try harder in school, to aspire to be their personal best, of giving them the confidence they needed to succeed in adulthood.... you should be given a gold medal! I hope that this will all come out in your favor. I'm sure there are past and present parents and students who will show up to support you.
LOL! Nlj thinks I'm a young misguided reprobate!!! OMG! Thanks I needed that this morning!
I am a wife, mom, and a grandmother -- I also have 4 tattoos. I don't believe I'm going to hell for it. I also don't believe it makes me a "trashy" or bad person. It's a matter of personal choice. I also believe that its a choice you don't make lightly and should not be allowed to make until you are 21.
The only difference between a tattooed person and a non-tattooed person is that tattooed people don't judge you for not having any.
I have no problem with Muslims, Buddahists, or anyother non-Christian denomination. My problem is the in-equality shown to Christians. It is almost considered a crime to be a Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, etc these days. How many feet away from a Mosque do you think I'd have to be before setting up a life-size Nativity or a mural depicting the Passion Of The Christ? Why am I not allowed to say: "Merry Christmas" but instead must say "Happy Holidays"? The Muslims are getting paid holiday for their religious holidays, but I must work Good Friday because it is no longer recognized as a religious holiday? Most Catholic schools have now become "charter schools" so that the government will have a "hand" in the cirriculumn. But there are private Islamic schools, funded by taxpayers, where Islam is the main subject.... How am I, as a Christian being intolorant or prejudice against my Islamic counterpart? I feel that the opposite is true!
What a terrible and sad event! This young man stopped to check on a stranded motorist -- that is a rare occurance in and of itself... but then to have been struck down so senslessly because someone was driving too fast, not paying attention or under then influence!
To this young man's family: May God comfort you in this time of tragedy! You will be in my prayers. I hope that his sons will take after him and be the type of man he obviously was.
