Dude, we need less craziness and more rationality. I'm not religious but I have a stronger code of morals and ethics than most "so-called" religious people I know! I don't worship Jesus Christ yet I live by the golden rule. All that religion does is divide us and make us hate each other--how is that following the dictates of Jesus in any way, shape or form? He said love, not hate; encourage and nurture, not condemn to hell or death. Your so-called Christianity is a big hypocritical lie.
I agree that recycling can be tedious, but don't you feel that a little bother now is worth a lot less pollution later on? I think it's irresponsible to promote NOT recycling, even if you do it indirectly. By writing a column that influences people you take on the HONOR of being able to change the way people view a situation. But instead of encouraging those who don't recycle to begin doing so, you just DIScouraged those who WANT to begin recycling. To All the Folks out there, recycling is NOT difficult and when you "get right down to it" takes up less than an hour of your time A WEEK. Writer, if you find it so difficult to "separate plastic from glass" I wonder how you manage to separate your white from dark laundry.
So our choices are a public pool (and we all know how much fun those are), watching baseball, or the PARK?! Seriously...there has got to be a lot more going on in Victoria than these paltry offerings this summer. I can find more activities to do by checking myspace!
This type of sad story happens far too often. About a month ago we began getting visits from a small, 2-3 month old cat. This was not a feral cat: clearly someone had kicked out their kitten once he started growing up (or once they discovered the cost of vets bills and pet deposits). Having two cats already, we could not afford to take on another one, but continued to feed the poor little bugger until eventually he stopped showing up, hopefully because he found a new home. Not spaying/neutering is irresponsible and cruel. Also, have you ever seen how many abandoned, now wild, cats there are living in Riverside Park? It's crazy! P.s. It seems like Adopt-A-Pet and Dorothy O'Connor are ALWAYS full and NEVER accepting animals. I recognize that these are admirable organizations filled with hardworking people, but we need to do more to expand these no-kill shelters so we can help more animals in the Victoria area.
I would think that for $1.5 million they could have afforded to build a few underground passages where the hike & bike trail crosses major roadways. It's not just the John Stockbauer crossing that is dangerous--the Miori Ln one is even narrower and more difficult to navigate, especially at night. I think this project was a great idea, poorely executed. Big surprise.
I think we should all respect each other's differences. Some celebrate Christmas, others Hannukah, Kwanzaa, and so on. It just so happens that Christians are the most populous, and loudest, group. And apparantly, are also so egocentric that they consider a broadening of the season's greetings to include religions other than theirs an "attack on Christmas." Please. You don't hear a bunch of other religious groups protesting that having everyone say Merry Christmas is "attacking" their tradition. Let's get over it and just enjoy the season. Happy Holidays.
