    longdistanceshot,

The people in district 4 said loud and clear that they were tired of the "legacy of leadership" by Laura Smith.

Those same voters thought that her vote on the colors was terrible. Hence, they elected Mansker.

It is his duty to represent them and all the children by bringing his opinion to the table and having discussion.

District 4 has a new representative, let him do his job.

The board final came up with a decision that the majority of them supported, so what's the problem?

    MattOcker,

I hope you do run for county judge--I can only imagine how many of us have already starting saving your comments in case you do!

If Terry Smith has an opinion of his own, perhaps he should make it known.

He didn't raise any money, or put out any information that would let you know what his "own" positions are.

All he did was hang up his wife's old signs and say he was going to continue her work and "would have her as his right hand man", quote from Advocast interview with editorial board. ( I did not quote Mr. Smith in the earlier comment--simply said it was his position.)

Talking things over with your spouse and being a voting puppet to continue a "legacy" are different in my mind.

Since Terry doesn't voice his own opinions, it does make this voter wonder if he is capable, nice guy though he may be.

Personally, I like to see a candidate work hard on the campaign trail, it is an indication of their interest.

And by the way, Terry Smith does not have "nine years of experience with the school board", his wife does.

The only positive to having Mr. Smith in the race is that the voters have a choice, and can pick their representative.

Too bad the other school board candidate didn't draw an opponent, that seat is now taken whether the voters like it or not for the next 3 years.

The choice is clear. Mansker or 3 more years of "more of the same".

    Good luck Mr. Mansker.

    This is really too good.

Smith turned down donations because of the economic times?

Smith doesn’t need money to buy signs. His wife gave them to him. He doesn’t need money to let the voters know who he is because he is hoping that the voters will just see the name “Smith” and think it his wife Laura. His entire campaign is that he will continue Laura’s work.

This is the same work that stalled a dress code change for 9 years, same work that ignored the public in the redistricting and the naming of schools, same black and red, black and red. Same name, same work, same school board, same results.

Terry Smith’s only position is: I would do what Laura did and if I didn’t know what to do, I’d ask her. If Smith can’t win on his wife’s record, no amount of money will get him elected.

I’d respect him more if he did something, anything for himself instead of having everything handed to him from Laura. If she really wanted to stay on the school board, she should have run.

Thanks Advocate, I am no longer an undecided voter.

    Zorro,

Sadly, Hagan is not a "check or a balance" for anything.

Timely reporting is required and a part of keeping campaign business straight.

If he were really about checks and balances, he'd have a campaign treasurer to double check that he has everything correct.

If Hagan is running on keeping all the others in line, maybe he should lead by example and make sure his own house is clean first.

Otherwise, sounds like an arrogant bag of hot air to me.

    Actually, it's not.

Try reading the part about the difference between campaign expenditures and dispensing with surplus funds. There's a difference.

Happy to stand corrected, how about you?

    longdistanceshot,

Checked my 'thoughts' online with the Texas Ethics Commission.

There are very clear rules on how a former candidate gets rid of campaign surplus.

Neither one of us is exactly correct. It all depends on what the former candidate is doing.

Funds and assets can be given to another candidate when the former candidate is going through the process of dispensing with surplus campaign funds.

If this is what Mrs. Smith is doing, I stand corrected.

If not, you would stand corrected.

Tyler, go back to work and salvage what you can of the rest of your term.

Your remark that your salary is primarily paid for by the state and that you are not wasting our tax dollars is offensive.

Under that rationale, the entire state of Texas should be put out with you and your antics.

If you can't go back to work, step down. Enough is enough.

Come on Hagan, "Anything else has purely been a sidebar"?

The central theme of your campaign has been that you plan on removing the "cloak of secrecy" and that helping to root out "official wrong doing" is your primary purpose.

The only fiscal conservative item that you talk about is not spending tax dollars on "free money for lawyers".

You really should read your own campaign material and listen to yourself speak.

You have repeatedly said that "the powers that be" are conspiring to keep you off the council.

News flash--the "powers that be" are the voters. It is not a conspiracy to vote.

"Tyler was not on trial, Ure was!"

Not any more. The question now is how much time and money will Tyler waste on an appeal.
