"Well, I'm around a lot of sick folks in the work of my ministry and most of them have decent healthcare because they are retired and have Medicare with one or more private supplemental policies. But what do you do before you retire? I have been with some folks who I suspect didn't get what they needed because they didn't have insurance and some may have died as a result because they waited around too long to get treatment. I'm like you, what real meaning does "...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness..." have if one has no right to healthcare. If we are truly desirous of being compassionate toward others why would we deny them the right to healthcare?"

"Globalgal, I forgot to say the other day that I really appreciated what you had to say about healthcare in places other than the US and specifically South Texas. Your actual experiences in Canada and Spain are a more valuable measure of what a regulated healthcare system looks like than all the libertarian rantings I saw on that particular comment string. I think it is important to get more real perspectives on the issue rather than merely rehashes of Rush, Glenn, Sean & Michael Savage. Thanks for an intelligent post."

"GlobalGal, Thanks for the tips on html. I saw that you worked in cardiology units in Victoria. If you don't mind me asking, when was that and which hopsital was it? I'm from Victoria originally and have been the pastor of the Crescent Valley Baptist Church since 1998 and I have done A LOT of hospital visitation over the ensuing 11 years and just wondered if I have ever run across you in the course of my ministry."

Information

Bio

I often describe myself as a serial expat because for the last nine years I have been moving from country to country. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I have lived in Colorado; Victoria & Goliad; Kuwait City, Kuwait; San José, Costa Rica; Avilés, Spain; Toronto, Canada and two places in China. Obviously I love to travel!

In previous lives I worked as a registered nurse in cardiology units in Victoria and Toronto. I currently work as an Aviation English teacher at a flight school. In the future I hope to work in a health science library.

My personal blog, http://global-gal.com, was created to share stories of life in China, travel experiences and things I find interesting. Here on the Advocate blog I aim to share observations on China from the Texas perspective. The two are complementary.

Goliad County is my legal permanent residence, the place my parents live and the place I visit each year. I hope you find my stories interesting, please don't hesitate to leave a comment!
