Yes those things are part of any major project like a park or other large sized construction project. But don't you think if you plan a park with all the ball fields this one is going to have you would also plan for proper parking and restrooms for such a project?? That said all of the engineering and design costs should have already been part of the original park plans. So why do these things need to be done again???? I have been in the construction field all of my adult life and would have had my bids on jobs thrown away if they did not allow for restrooms in the bids. Who builds anything with out them???? It would be like bidding to build a house and after its built bid to put a restroom in it... It just shows how stupid those in power are. They approved plans for a park that did not include restrooms at a cost of what 2 million dollars counting the 1 million in matching funds. I guess 2 million was not enough to allow for a restroom!!!!!! Give me a break!!!!! Maybe 1 less ballfield should have been bid with that savings used FOR A RESTROOM!!!!! Again how STUPID do those in power think we are????? You don't plan a park with all the things this one is going to have with out restrooms for ALL the people these ballfields will have using them. You would not plan to build a store with out parking for customers or a school with out enough classrooms for all the students or a home with out a bathroom in it. So why would anyone plan and design a park of this scope without restrooms??????
Who in their right mind plans a public park WITHOUT restrooms???? DO THEY REALLY THINK WE ARE THAT STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The restrooms should have been included in the cost of the park from the start.
Does anyone see a pattern here build schools then worry about TRAFFIC after the fact!!!! BUILD a walking/biking trail that crosses a MAJOR road in the middle of the block instead of at an intersection then close it down because of safety issues. consoldate visd into 1 high school only to say we need two new high schools a few years later to meet our students needs. close victoria high campus down because it fails to meet the needs of modern education then put advanced classes in those old unfit buildings and build more buildings there for art and culture.classes. Spend millions on mainstreet project to bring life and new business to downtown and add NO NEW PARKING SPACES. The stupidity shown by those in power just goes on and on without end. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH the only STUPID thing now is to let these people continue to do these stupid things with our tax money.
175,000 for six stall bathroom!!!!!! 30,000 per crapper COME ON THATS WAY TO EXPENSIVE wake up folks somebody is lining their pockets at our expense. Paying that much for a restroom is down right STUPID all who voted for this project should be RECALLED and booted out of office no wonder our taxes keep going up every year. Whom ever designed this white elephant called a restroom is an IDIOT and those who voted for it are NOT WISELY SPENDING OUR TAX DOLLARS. FIRE the EGO-MANIACS who call themselves public servants starting with his holiness the mayor.
How about PAYING YOUR DEBTS you made them. Or quit charging things if you can't afford to make the payments. knowingly running up debt then not paying for it is the same as stealing and should be treated as a crime. THE FREE RIDE IS OVER.
how about all the drivers using the left turn lane to enter traffic from side streets and parking lots. The left turn lane is not for this. when are the police going to put a stop to this practice as it causes alot of accidents on our roadways. ITS A LEFT TURN LANE PEOPLE. AND WHILE YOUR AT IT PUT AWAY YOUR CELL PHONES WHILE DRIVING. talking and texting while driving puts everyone in danger. if you must use the phone pull into a parking lot and stop being a DUMB@#$. If our law enforcement officers put as much effort into stopping these real risks to public safety as they do into writing seat belt tickets we all would be much safer.
it was not to long ago that colony creek country club was having membership problems why not sell it off to a company as a location to build this project. It would be a nice addition to a convention center-Hotel complex. Hope it's big enough to hold concerts and other events in as well. Then maybe, just maybe, victoria would have something to do here!! I hate to say it but for a city this size there is NOTHING to do here. Anything that brings in this kind of improvement would be extremely welcome.
In defense of the majority of contractors (being one myself) most of us don't run we do the job!! As bid and in a timely fashion. I took 40-60% down (depending on material costs) on start date to buy materials for years.
It would have been and still is unthinkable for me to treat customers like that. My lively hood depends on satisfied customers telling everyone they know about the fine job I did for them.
But because of this, I now have the customer meet me at the lumber yard/super store and pay for my needed materials with delivery to the job site and a token payment for misc supplies not listed in the material list( such as shims, caulks, hardware, and other minor items). so there is no risk involved to the customer. with the balance due when job is done.
The Advocate should expose this "contractor" so no one else becomes a victim
enjoy your weekend. stay cool in this heat wave and we will chat again later. To each his own opinion! By the way I loved your past posts on the barber shop and the 5 days of picking cotton. check out my post on the cotton one I think you will relate to some of it. Have a great day!!!!
mike The biggest problem I have with the healthcare law is all the non healthcare stuff in the 2000 plus pages of the bill. There are vast amounts of money earmarked for non healthcare issues. No govt bill needs to be 2000 pages long.
Defense spending and entitlements need to be on the chopping block as well. I think I said that every aspect of the budget needs to be looked at and costs cut as much as possible where ever possible.
I know that we are on very different sides of the isle on the way to do this. You favor big govt calling the shots and I prefer the smallest govt possible to handle the job effectively. I do not trust the govt to handle healthcare due to it's prior track record controlling any program it has put into place. It's projected costs to savings ratio has never ever been close to the real cost with no savings that past programs projected even just 10 years down the road. What makes you think they will get it right this time.
