I think this is a great way to showcase our local talent, as well as raise awareness about VC offering opportunities for that talent. The college is a great asset for this community and this event opens up the doors for our local athletes to see that. Hope all goes well!
As far as homophobia, I wasn't aware that the church was deathly scared of sinners of any type. Personally, my church would be empty if it weren't for sinners saved by grace. People who study the bible, instead of skimming it to find exceptions to the rules, find that God loves all of us, but cannot allow us in His presence with sin. The important thing is that ministers are held to a higher standard because they are the leaders of the church. They are the ones people look to for guidance, and they are the ones who will have to give an account for the souls they were charged with. Is the church scared of homosexuals? No. We openly invite them to come hear God's word. Should the Church allow homosexuals to minister? No. Nor should it allow adulterers, liars, murderers, or anyone STILL LIVING in sin. Repentant sinners are washed clean and are acceptable. Consider them, as I do myself and all my christian friends, "refurbished."
Sounds like a great way to raise money for a good cause! Hope everyone is a good sport about it.
Please keep the family and his friends in your prayers.
It is a sad day when you lose someone you knew for a long time. It is, however, a small measure of comfort when justice is served.
I'd have to disagree with you on that point. But I would also have to agree. I'd disagree because it depends on the "one" that you are talking about. I'd agree because, thanks to the hard work of THE ONE, billions of people have been saved. I can see where you are coming from though, our companies don't pay us to pray. I can say from personal experience that it does pay to pray. Not necessarily in monetary terms, but the peace that God gives and the assurance that above all else, He is sovereign and will work everything together for the good. Prayer is not a cure-all for human suffering, it is simply a connection to God to keep you grounded in times of suffering. Think of it as a lighthouse in the storm, just because you see a lighthouse doesn't mean the storm is over and your ship is safe. It does remind you that there is Someone watching out for you. Prayer should be a refreshing experience, building yourself up in the faith. To many people see it as a plea for help. Yes, certain times we will ask for things in prayer, but that should not be the only time we seek God's face. Prayer should be an open communication with God, which is why the bible says "Pray without ceasing." You could also pray while you work, a modern take on "Pray without ceasing." :)
It's a shame that someone felt they need to remove someone from the face of the earth if that person wronged them. They don't consider the lives they touch. Family, friends, classmates. It is a very dark day for those who knew the light shared by Matt. I'll miss him and ask all of you reading this to keep his family in your prayers as I will.
