I would like to thank Mr. Bludau for his service in Vietnam. I am also extremely proud of my brother, Joel, who he mentions in his article. That being said; I am highly offended by Mr. Bludau’s disparaging remarks about the National Guard. We have two generations of guardsmen in my family. My dad, deceased, was in the Guard prior to WW II. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, his unit, the 36th I.D., was mobilized and Dad was eventually reassigned and spent the next five years fighting Germans in France, Belgium, and Germany. In 1960, at the age of 17, my parents gave me permission to join the Guard and I served from 1960-65 in a tank battalion assigned to the 36th I.D. – I did not see combat, but I certainly consider myself a veteran. Contrary to Mr. Bludau’s remarks about the National Guard not serving in Vietnam, the following is a quote from the Guard’s website: “During the Vietnam War, almost 23,000 Army and Air Guardsmen were called up for a year of active duty; some 8,700 were deployed to Vietnam." (http://www.ng.mil/About/default.aspx) With his remarks, I feel that Mr. Bludau has shown a glaring lack of respect for me, my dad, and every other person who currently serves or has served in the Guard. The National Guard Motto: “Always Ready - Always There.”

I've attended this event and photographed it for the last five years. Working for a small newspaper, I do all I can to get the word out. Go one time and you will be hooked, it's wonderful to be able to thank these heroes in person. See some of my photos here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?se...

As we celebrate Texas Independence, we must never forget that as the document for independence was being written, the fortress at the Alamo was under siege and attack by Mexican forces. Gonzales holds such a unique place in Texas history, because this area was the only one to actually send reinforcements to the beleaguered command. In my newspaper column this week I've used words from those who were actually there and took part in the battle. You can read my column online here: http://texaspride1943.blogspot.com/20...

Thank you, and "Remember the Alamo"

I write for the online magazine, Texas Escapes. You can read a story about one family near Angleton who all died during Hurricane Carla, with the exception of one. I knew the survivor personally. Go here: http://www.texasescapes.com/MurrayMon...

McCoy because he's the best of the bunch. As for A&M, well they always choke on the big games - expect Oklahoma to get revenge on them, big time, this year.

I'm not sure about the statement by someone that said 90 percent of the Texas army were illegal immigrants. Fact is, many of these Anglos were citizens of Mexico who had came to Texas under Mexico's colonization laws and actually took oaths to become Mexican citizens which many of them did. These days we have immigration laws in this country that are not enforced by this administration. But when you come to this country illegally, you are a law-breaker and criminal, and should be punished.

I've covered the event in Port O'Connor for the last four years for Hallettsville Publishing Co. which produces all the newspapers in Lavaca County (Hallettsvillle Tribune-Herald, Shiner Gazette, The Moulton Eagle, and the Yoakum Herald-Times). Everyone should attend this at least one time and thank these wounded kids who've sacrificed so much for so the rest of us can enjoy our freedom. People here illegally should not be counted because they are not American citizens and they don't have the right to vote. At least they aren't supposed to be allowed to vote but with all the criminals out there stealing IDs from citizens, who the hell knows.
