Apparently the people voting in this poll haven't read much about this story. The test scores were thrown out because it was determined that there were not enough minorities taking the test to keep their quota of minorities in ranking positions. It doesn't say they were passed over to give jobs to minorities they were bypassed because no minorities took the test. It's not fair to bypass these firefighters because no minorities took the test. It was available for all to take and no one but these firefighters took it. The last time I checked there was a term for this. It's called reverse discrimination. I appreciate this department trying to be fair but when NO minorities take the test it's no one's fault but the minorities. Not the department or the firefighters who did test. I believe EVERYONE deserves a fair shake but not at someone else's expense.
This guy is PROBABLY the roommate he is sitting there complaining about. What was on that finger he kept showing. Looked kind of brown to me. But I find that hard to believe that he could have his finger up his A%^ when his head is so firmly entrenched up there. Stay in New York.
It is a shame that today's society seems to have removed parenting from it's roles and should in a lot of cases just call them sperm donor or egg donor instead of Dad or Mom. They let the kids run wild, do what they want and to whom they want. I try to be a good role model for my son, but I'll admit that I sometimes fall short. My joke with my son is that I think he'll be a good kid in spite of me instead of because of anything I did. It seems like kids main role models any more are rappers talking about what they want to do to women, what they smoking, shooting up or shooting at someone or who they killing while they are drinking or any combination of the above. Dejasmom has a good point but ask your child one question when expressing disapproval of something your child is doing. "Would you honestly approve of this if YOUR child were the one doing it instead of you, or would you be embarassed if your child were caught trading those pictures?" See what their reaction to that would be. Kids today are in some ways no different than we were back then. They have no concept of how their actions now will affect them tomorrow.

Have you ever heard of a neighborhood watch. The deputy is trying to tell you that he can't do anything at this point because it is simply your word against theirs. If enough neighbors observe this and are willing to testify then it isn't a he said she said situation anymore. If you can get something documented ( pictures, video etc.) even better. I am a former deputy (from another area) and while unfortunate the way the law is worded basically does nothing to help the victims. The suspect has to either be caught in the act by law enforcement or on video tape which clearly shows the suspect committing an offense. Contact the investigators at the County and let them know what is going on and ask them very simply what do I have to do to get something done. Ask them if pictures will work. Tell them exactly what has happened and when deputies have been there. They should be able to access the deputy's reports and advise you on how best to handle the situation. They probably have no knowledge of the incidents so don't go in raising H#@% with them. Keep calling CPS about the foster parents and document everything you see wrong at the residence.
And last but not least, If any kind of physical harm comes to the individuals you are speaking of you better have a good lawyer or a good alibi because with all your talk about "vigilante justice" any crime possibly committed by you against them is now premeditated and carries a stiffer penalty because of your comments posted here. Just food for thought. You might even tell their landlord that you are going to send them the bill to replace all the windows that are broken out by THEIR tenant. Good Luck.
What really sucks is listening to you people complain about people who put their lives on the line day in and day out. I wouldn't be surprised if someone on this forum called in a bogus tip just so you could watch them come up with nothing and give you ammunition to complain. KNOCK IT OFF. I read one comment that they have had problems in the past with this individual, they are known for violence with police. The person who commented on having a rating system for defining when SWAT is called is absolutely CORRECT. All of these things and even more are taken into account. The point is they are breaking their backs to help get the criminal element in our society to jail where they belong. If they err on the side of officer (and/or citizen) safety and come up empty handed you complain about wasting tax dollars. If you found they were conducting surveillance on someone you'd complain that they were wasting your tax money too. The complainers I'm reading in here are probably the kind that if they were given 10 million dollars TAX FREE you'd complain because they gave it to you in $100 bills instead of $50's. There may be some problems in the department here but, I've yet to see (or work for) a department that didn't have room for improvement. If you don't like the way they work consider one thing. What would you think if they weren't there at all.
The price of an oil change in a "quick" lube is expensive but you can just as easily call it a convenience lube. It's like buying a gallon of milk at a convenience store compared to going to HEB. You run into your corner convenience store and you're in and out quickly but costing more. It's the same thing with a quick lube. You're paying for the quick. And trust me those guys such as at Mr Roddy's business earn it working on hot engines. If you take your vehicle somewhere like a dealership you're going to have to wait a bit but they can be cheaper (and your vehicle will be a lot cooler when they work on it LOL). If you change your own oil it can be cheaper. On the average about $20 bucks with a name brand oil (Castrol 5 quarts average $15 and a filter $5 bucks) then you have to crawl under your car drain the oil, change the filter, add oil and check it. 10-15 minutes for average person to do only that much. Quick lube will check ALL fluids (top them off if needed), tires, filters (air filter, fuel filter etc,)Check belts, hoses, battery levels, This is just basic service. The fast lube that I managed (in another town) also vacuumed the front floor boards and washed your windshield. All of this is done in about 10 - 12 minutes. Plus they maintain shop insurance. If they damage anything on your vehicle they have insurance to cover it. If you mess it up doing it yourself you have to pay to fix it. The cost of oil is only small percentage of cost of oil change and usually the increase in oil price is not completely passed on to consumers such as in Mr Roddy's case. Thanks for being honest Mr Roddy some of us know exactly what you're dealing with.
Don't get caught dumping used motor oil. 1 cup can get you 10 years in prison. 1 cup of used oil is all it takes to mess up water table for a long time
The comments that I am seeing are almost sad. It disappoints me to read that a parent would not "waste" a vacation day to go to their child's school to learn about anything new that is being taught to their kid. If you think of anything to do with your child's education is a waste maybe you should have thought twice about having kids in the first place. I think that a lot of people are still missing the point about this OTHER way to do math. Like someone said, a lot of this is actually old school. It has been around awhile but is now being taught with a new spin on it. I have heard some say that they like this new math and several had other opinions about it. The important opinion that really needs to be heard is how the kids are doing with this. Like I said earlier this new spin on math is a tool that has the potential to help a kid who is having problems learning math in the vertical sense to understand it and reach the same conclusions as a classmate who did it differently. As far as the person talking about giving up paper and pencil and going to calculators. You seem to forget one very important thing. The people who built that calculator or computer probably learned how to do it starting out with "paper and pencil" That is one reason that we as nation are getting soft is we just don't use our brains anymore (at least not the one's in our head.) Now we have electronic brains such as PDA's laptops cell phones, etc. I think you get the picture. Pretty soon we will be so conditioned to using computer to think for us then we won't have need for schools because we will be mindless jellyfish who don't need to think because we have technology. Give these kids the tools they need to learn to solve problems. You never know it might help with solving problems in life too. It helps teach them that there can be more than one way to solve a problem.
I don't have a problem with this new way to learn math. The one thing that people are seeming to forget is that not every child learns exactly the same way. A teachers job is not just to teach what the right answer is but to help them learn how to come up with that answer. Anytime you give a child more tools for education that should be considered a good thing. I'm not going to say that I agree with everything in education because I feel like students are tested to death but that's another reply for another time. All I want to say is give our students ALL the tools they need to succeed. If this new way of learning math helps even a handful of students learn math then great it was worth it. You never know it might be your child that it helped so please give it a chance.
