I am of German and Czech descent and proud of it; but I was born and raised in the United States, so that makes me American and I'm even more proud of that!!! If you were born here, you are American, plain and simple!!!

Sara Meyer is exactly the lady Cuero needs to lead our excellent City Council. She's smart, knows her job, and has a contagious smile plus being an all around good person. Anyone who smiles like that when speaking of her grandchildren is a credit to her family, friends (one of which I count myself), and the City of Cuero.

Thank you all for your support. The December Events Committee appreciates it all.

I posted this yesterday on the breaking news; and, I feel compelled to repeat it today. I have read all of the comments, pro and con, and as a member of the group that sponsors Christmas in the Park, I just want you all to know that those 'some lights' are very expensive and take many, many hours for us to put up, and that every one of them was bought with donated money. I think you would all faint if you knew what all those 'some lights strung up' cost!! We work all year on this project with contacting donors, ordering scenes, publicity, meetings, upkeep of scenes and many other jobs that go with Christmas in the Park. You are all entitled to your opinion, but until you have worked for seven weeks to put up the scenes (just ask one of the seven old men), there is no way some of you can begin to understand how heartbreaking it was for the twenty of us (all volunteers, all retired and in the late 60s and early 70s) that Sunday morning when we saw the damage. Reactions have come from far and wide expressing disbelief that some one could do that kind of damage. It did not amount to 'only pulling up some stakes'. These scenes are made of angle iron and rebar, and if you could have seen how the paddlewheeler was twisted, they had to use something other than their hands to damage the boat. When the flag came out of the water (with two bucket trucks and nine men lifting it) it was shaped like an S, and to see a US flag so disrespected was awful!!! One last thing - it did not matter to us if the people who did the damage are unknown in the city; Gobblers; or some rich kid whose Daddy could buy him off - we would have pressed charges no matter who it was!!

As I said in the article, this is not a hate crime, and I don't like to see the public so upset at it being called that. This was the act of persons very insecure in their place on this earth; lack of parental involvement in their lives; and, possibly the thrill of doing something to make them look strong and tough. They failed!!!

Christmas in the Park is purely for the enjoyment of the area's citizens and a love of Christmas and the US Flag. We don't work so hard for the glory of it all; we're just a group of folks who love to see the joy and happiness of people and making everyone feel like a kid again. Come see us Nov 23 - Jan 1 and you'll see and feel what I mean.

Thank all of you for your comments, they are very much appreciated. We are working on security and the police chief says that they do patrol the park every hour during the night. You all mean so much to us for your support for the past years. This is our 10th anniversary for Christmas in the Park and we will open on November 23, and look forward to seeing you all. It may take several years, but the flag and the paddlewheeler will be replaced. Mary Polansky, December Events Committee

Cuero's Christmas in the Park has not opened yet and already we have had vandalism. Wednesday night a person(s) went into the closed park and broke off our baby fawn's head and half of the buck's antlers. Also, someone smashed about 75 bulbs on our fountain. Why would someone do this? Where are the parents? We work hard to put up Christmas in the Park every year. We don't do it just for ourselves, but for the 60,000 to 100,000 people who visit Christmas in the Park over the 6 weeks we are open.
If you ever observe anyone doing damage, please call the Cuero Police Department. We look forward to seeing all of you November 23 through January 3.

Thank you to The Advocate and Julian Cavazos for the story on the Way of the Cross and Jesus' crucifixion. Even though it's so sad that Jesus had to suffer for our sins, yes, even those we have not committed yet; it is even sadder that many people look upon Good Friday and The Easter Triddum as just another day off from work/school. Wake up, America and the World, we must return to publicly and proudly showing our faith. The US needs our prayers now more than ever before as we are headed down a very dark and lonely road to oblivion. Let go and Let God - it will all turn out all right in His good time.
