Roberttx, my daughter is far from stupid and far from lazy! As a matter of fact, From the very beginning of her educational life, she not only met the district/state's expectations but consistiently EXCEEDED them! I've kept each and every report card/TAKS report and can verify what I speak of.
Nor am I a worthless parent and should you care to contact me privately, will give you names of teachers to whom I reached out to in order to keep my child on the right track!!!

Prior to my daughter dropping out, she had a problem with excessive skipping classes. I went to the school to see how, working together, we could solve the problem. Initially, I had several of her teachers, one, who recently received a well deserved recognition, two years later is still keeping in contact with her and encouraging her....
When I reached out to the parent liason at the Admin. building, her solution was to get a court-order allowing my child to drop out of school to avoid a truancy charge. I adamently disagreed with it and told everyone who'd listen. I even objected at the court hearing! Which, by the way, was conspiciously un attended by any representative of VISD....
My daughter DID get her GED and scored in the top percentage NATIONWIDE!!!! She took the THEA and has been taking college courses at VC for 3 semesters. Additionally, she holds down a full-time job! Lazy? Worthless? Stupid? Nope!
I am curious -- the article states that the district "searched" for students who should have graduated in 2009... what are the requirements of a student to be "searched"? I have a student who dropped out in her jr year. No one from the school has EVER contacted her ---
See, here's the thing: The school district doesn't care one itty bitty bit about individual students - what they care about is the money! Warm bodies in the classroom equals money in the rapidly depleting coffers of VISD.
The "unacceptable" rating by the TEA hurt everyone in our school district. The district made a HUGE mistake way back there when they consolidated the two high schools against everyone's wishes. Students in high school, who were on border slipped through the cracks because there were too many students for teachers to keep up with.
The principals at both campuses, answering to the Superintendent and BOE, stressed attendance at all costs, TAKS prep to the exclusion of all else...
Now we are reaping the fruit of the mistakes of our school board members who voted for consolidation!
The new high schools that will open in August 2010 will only be new buildings -- we still have the same problems and those problems go way beyond what we're being led to believe. Our school board representatives won't/don't listen to the parents and the students in put and concerns -- they've sent the message LOUD AND CLEAR!
Oh someone should have talked to me about these so-called court-ordered GED's.... I could have told them just how concerned VISD is about giving kids an education!!!!!

I have a few questions here and hope that someone can help me:
1. What is the difference between a Chief of Staff and "office manager"?
2. When does an "office manager" , in the DA's office, have the authority to sign off on investigations?
3. Why, given prior knowledge of an on going investigation of a sexual assault against a child, would anyone hire the subject and after such, allow them to have access to cases involving sexual assault?
4. When is it okay for an employer, with knowledge of a possible sexual assault committed by his employee, to allow said employee to consult and advise an outside organization about "safe schools" and sexual assault???
Final question --
5. Why does a guilty plea to aggrevated perjury (in essence, lying thru your teeth), equal a loss of driving priviledges??? Like that's going to keep our kids safe from sex offenders!
Any answers??? anyone?

I also would like to know the reason why Mr. Tyler promised the young lady's family that he would check into the case and get back to them, and they heard nothing from him for nearly a year. He won't even return a phone call.
He may be prosecuting cases, but he isn't prosecuting ALL the cases! There is no good reason for this case to have taken this long to conclude.
KCi - here's the problem I have with your post -- a young lady was sexually and physically assaulted in early 2007. A SANE exam was performed and physical evidence found. The young victim gave a video statement -- one who witnessed the physical assault gave a statement... The alleged perpetrators own mother gave a statement to school officals that places the victim in the alleged perps home at the time of the assault --- Yet so far --- after 27 months, 3 weeks 4 days, the case remains unprosecuted. Why? If Mr. Tyler is prosecution sexual predators, why hasn't this case been resolved? Don't try to sell me that baloney that Mr. Tyler cares about these cases -- he doesn't!
He has pursued with rabid determination the case against Chief Ure, Mayor Armstrong, David Smith and Lt. Buentello, because he, Tyler, feels he has been victimized. He is dogging these men because of stupid belief that they tried to embarass Tyler. He needs to let it go -- be satisfied that he has caused enough people to have doubts about our Police Dept and city leaders.
Mr. Tyler needs to get on with his job! Representing the State of Texas, Victoria County and prosecuting all those who have committed crimes!
I am still waiting for either Mr. Tyler himself, or one of his ardent supporters to answer my questions from other threads and topics:
If Mr. Tyler is so interested in "justice" and making sure that "no one is above the law", then why isn't he working on the murder cases in town -- why is it that sexual assaults and violent crimes against women and children aren't being tried??? How can that make you powerful, Mr. Tyler? To allow these victims to REMAIN victims instead of surriviors!
Don't blame VPD! Man up and get these criminals off the streets of Victoria!

You and your supporters continually state that you want to prove no one is above the law -- Dr. Maples broke the law and committed a felony here in your jurisdiction. The same offense as the city officials were indicted for, which you persued with the tenacity of a pit bull -- Prove to me, and the other citizens of Victoria County, that NO ONE is above the law and prosecute Dr. Maples to the fullest extent. His purgery offense was NOT a victimless crime. Mr. Tyler, you have a chance to redeem yourself here. Prove to the doubters and anti-DA office that you are serious about prosecuting ALL offenders.
