So, to all of you that are saying it is ok for teenagers to smoke pot, would you allow your son/daughter to smoke weed at your house? Would you allow him/her to drive around with friends and get "high"? As a parent of a teenager and athlete, my answer is NO. There is just to much at stake. He knows that he has to much to lose for just one night of ILLEGAL fun. Drinking at 17 is illegal. Drugs are illegal. Have we failed as parents and as leaders when our young teenagers think that it is ok to participate in ILLEGAL actions? If this young man would have drove and possibly hurt or killed someone would you all be sitting saying his actions were ok?
There is one part of this story that I agree with. This story is about more than football. It is about mistakes and what happens when we do not learn from them the first time. We all know that Trent is a great football player, but he made the choice to put fun first not his future. As stated above, this is his second offense. The first time I can see as a mistake you learn from. The second, I see a young man who just doesn't care. People tried to help him and he did not listen. As a parent, I feel for his family. I know they are going through pain in dealing with all of this. Hopefully when all this is over, Trent, along with many young athletes who look up to him, will have learned more than one lesson.
Calhoun played a game...just not their game tonight. #88 Logan Daigle is more than likely gone for the season but will find out more tomorrow (ACL). Vic. East played a dang good game.
As of right now, no rain in Port Lavaca...just cloudy
Good Luck Preston! My son is there also but I couldn't make the trip so good luck to Brandon and all the Calhoun boys as well!!
Calhouns non district schedule is:
Flourbluff CC Ray Cuero Rockport
we will know district schedule tomorrow
According to the CCISD website this is the info:::
District Re-Alignment is in:
Beeville Floresville Gregory-Portland Victoria East Victoria West Calhoun
***All other Non-District games decided on by coaches.
I have heard that we (Calhoun) will play Flourbluff as our first game, but don't quote me on that as it is just hear say. Anyway, good luck to all teams next yr. It should be interesting.
It is wonder that our young men get out there and play any sports at all. We adults come on these boards and put their teams down, their coaches down, their school down. Imagine being one of those players on the last Vipers team and having to read all the horrid comments people come in here and make. It's a high school sport people. We should be encouraging these kids to stay in sports and off the street and out of trouble. I went to both Calhoun and Victoria High, I know what it was like winning and losing. But I also know what it is like now to be a parent and to hear and read the comments. No one can judge what next year will be like. You can sit and be an arm-chair coach all you want but until the time comes that the schools step out on the field again, just stop. Win or lose, it's about the kids. As it should be.
inezbohonk, the truck, in which the drugs were found, had a retractable cover on the bed(I guess that is what they are calling a trunk), although according to last nights news coverage on this it was not being used at the time. The drugs were packed in duffle bags which were visable to the deputy. Like I said, this story in the VA leaves a lot out of what was said about this on the news last night.
This story, in the newspaper, does not contain everything that was said. Instead of picking words out of story to cause controversy, I think the VA needs to print the entire story for their readers. Having watched the news of it last night on KAVU, this article leaves out a great deal of the story. There were 3 vehicles involved in this, the deputy got lucky and stopped the right one. When the truck was stopped the men, believed to be hispanic, bailed out of the truck and ran into a pasture in the fog.
I do not believe that BB was being racist. This statement....It was a typical bailout like those illegals do," Browning said.....was referring to what those in law enforcement see on a daily basis. Don't believe me, watch the news sometime and no I don't mean KAVU, talk to a local law enforcement officer, or I'm sure by now you can find it on youtube. Before you sit here and judge someone on something, you should first know the whole story.
