Ronald Regan famously said, "Take down that (Berlin) wall". That was definitely not US or Regan's property. But it sure did a lot to begin social changes for a country long due social changing. The sign may be on Mr. Nietsch's property, but it is in full view of people who find it offensive and socially irresponsible. So I join the voice of "Mr. Nietsch, tear down that sign". Quit being an instigator of the devisiveness, and a creator of problem solving to bridge the deviseness gap.

Surely if all this sign wishes is that Obama be outsted, a better Biblical verse, without the surrounding condemnations, could have been found. Many preach the Bible out of context, to justify their menace or mayhem, but the true Christian knows one line does not by itself explain anything, but rather is a part of the whole content/meaning surrounding it. We all know what the perpetrator of the sign meant, or are too mentally diminished to understand the implications.
I do not intend to fight or shovel out BS. Just stating the facts, sir. I could not be any closer to the problem. I have been on both ends-well off and poor. No matter how you cut it, your elected reps are the problem. It is far too easy to get government to foot the bill-you just have to be a good enough liar, poor or rich. It's not feminism, machismo, or any other label you wish to give to the root of the problem. Try reading the guidelines for getting government handouts or qualifying for government aid. The total absurdity of the programs is phenomenol. You, apparently, resent anyone pointing out the lack of accountability by those who receive government handouts. You don't want me looking into other people's cart. You're right, the government should be looking in their carts and putting the brakes on junk food as allowable food stamp purchases. Of course, you're not a misogynist. You love women so long as they know their place and stay in it. There are chauvanists within all political parties..

WOW!!! Misogyny is alive and well and living in Victoria, or perhaps, Rush Limbaugh has made a field trip to our fair city. Pumping out kids regardless of ability to care for them is a sad social disease-calling or categorizing the procreating parties as sluts and stud or feminists.Actually, the welfare system encourages dependency on government hand-outs. It’s a Catch 22. On this side we have the “cut off the welfare after so many kids.” On the other side “We can’t let the kids starve; it’s not their fault adults are so selfish.” That’s right, Selfish. Those who willingly bring a child into an environment of poverty are just plain selfish. They are encouraged in the selfishness by many do-gooders. Take a look around at all the freebies available to them. Free medical care, free car seats, free disposable diapers, free food stamps, free housing, free money, FREE! FREE!!! Not one of these giveaway programs asks for any true accountability in return-NONE. It’s better to be poor if you’re not rich. Can I get a “hallelujah”, middle class? Our government reps need to get their heads out of their….and examine their giveaways programs. Did you know the illiterate can get Medicaid? That’s right-just convince them you can’t read nor write and public funds are there. What’s really laughable (aside from all of Reuben Navarette’s phony boohooing)? Illegals come here, can’t read, write, speak English, communicate well enough to find employment. Walk through the grocery store. See the ones with potato chips, sodas, ice cream, candy, Ozark water instead of generic water? A SNAPS card will, likely, slide through the reader at checkout. I stood in astonishment in HEB one day when the tag on some very-pricey gift baskets of junk food “this is a SNAPS eligible item”. Mrs. Obama, you’re doing a good thing with the get healthy campaign, but please look into the appalling abuse of the food subsidy system. So much more can be said, but back to your misogynistic view of life, feminism is not to blame for this social disease. Your government, Dem and Rep, is. It is actually more beneficial for the poor to have more kids, for mommy and daddy. Many daddies live off the welfare system, too. More kids girlfriend pumps out, more money there is. Who knows they're not using it for the kids? Let’s don’t even start on the abuses by the Republicans of the “liberal” nanny state debacle they never shut up about. Just saying. Let’s do a survey of SNAP and welfare recipients by political party affiliations. I already know the results- do you?
“The Democrats need as many intellectual runts as they can get.”As do Republicans, Independents, etc. Without the intellectual runts, the politicians would not be able to govern by proxy (alas, the lobbyists govern the politicians who govern this country) This is only possible because the “intellectual runts” far outnumber those who intelligently question their party’s actions, rather than kneeling before the almighty political party of their choice and daring anyone to dispute their party is the best that’s ever been, no dissent tolerated regardless of whether facts support the subject.
Wasn’t it Mrs. Bush who was to take the educational fiasco in hand and then embraced the deficiencies to the point of their becoming even more deficient? The “No Child Left Behind…” seems to have left whole bunches of kids behind and many teachers teaching to the test rather than to the kids.
No one party is totally guilty of messing up the educational system and they should all (political parties) hang their heads in shame. The solution to balance the budget by robbing the educational funding, even though there is supposedly a law in place to prohibit such tomfoolery, is an egregious act.You can’t fix a problem that nobody really seriously wants to fix. There's no super profitability factor in education AND Kids can’t vote!!!!
Of course this maneuver was an excuse to deny the grant. Maybe some day a very brave whistle blower will expose this practice. Meanwhile, on the federal level, the Department of Health and Human Services granted a university request which netted it around 3/4 of a million dollars and other universities also received the largesse of this grant generosity to make a total of around $1.5 million.
One university generated 1.6 hires and another .61 hires as a result of this grant. For what? Well, to study the problem of erectile dysfunction (ED) suffered by fat, older men.
My calculations show that this would have equaled around 7 times what Hope asked for.
Shame on you Texas. How many stupid grant requests would we find in your closet that are equally, if not more reprehensible.
Don't want to get into any spittin' contest over whose party can work wonders and create miracles. Both parties leave a lot to be desired in not paying as much attention to their jobs as they do their "generous political donors'" wish lists. One of the first budget cuts on the never-ending bickering over spending cuts is the enforcement personnel needed to oversee various laws. Safety issues are often a big game to employers unless proper enforcement occurs frequently. A "catch us if you can mentality" exists. Safety procedures and personnel training are mandatory, by law, for most employers. Power is delegated to the states by OSHA for oversight and enforcement. Unfortunately, both parties are guilty of dropping the ball when it comes to oversight, but Republicans are more apt to do so because of their total distate for government interference into a company's business. Not to say Democrats do an outstanding job because they don't do all that can be done either. Many companies will put aside procedures which interfere with the rapid output of their product. Their theory is often that being caught is less expensive (even when large fines are levied) than their diligent attention to regulatory requirements. This company's job site probably has a billboard with safety requirements posters, and probably even has a company safety manual, also required by law. Whether or not the billboard and actual active adherence are the same often differ because of the demands of making money as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, employees are usually the ones to pay the price for this neglect, this mind frame. Sad.
You do realize, don't you, that common sense has no place in the decision making process once government gets involved? Therefore, your rationalization, although correct, is never going to happen. Why? Too much money to spread around. I myself wonder why Highway 87 seems to be in a constant state of repaving? the street into Riverside Park is an embarrassment and insult to the people of Victoria and visitors. Yet they keep paving, repaving, and repaving Laurent, Hwy 87, and on and it is a stupid waste of money because obviously it is low quality work or the streets/highways would withstand more wear and tear.
The speed limit on Hwy 87 may be 70mph, but you can bet there are very few who go this slowly. It is an exceptionally dangerous intersection, but $7 million+++ would go a long way toward a 55mph limit, and create many new jobs for state/county police and funding for a bunch of new police cars to patrol and enforce the limit.
But as I said, common sense has no place in this arena. Why I even hear there's a law been passed to raise the limit to 80 mph in areas (probably lots of areas). because some self-serving state legislator didn't like having to leave early to get to Austin in time for legislative sessions. Absolutely no thought seems to have been given to the fact that new highway signs, insurance rates rocketing upward, and the loss in lives will be phenomenal.
