For those of you who have expressed so much concern and love for me, I will try to update you on my "condition". Most of you already know that I was diagnosed with lung cancer in October (after not smoking for 13 years). by December it had metastasized to my adrenal glands. My only option was chemo. After talking to my family, I decided that I valued my quality of life above all else so I chose to do nothing. I am such an active, outgoing person that I just could not see giving up my lifestyle to face the rigors of chemo which may or may not prolonged my life.
Those of you who know me know I quit my job in February. Up until now life has been good, but about a month ago I sat down at the computer to type an email and my left hand had "forgotten" how to type. I went to my doctor thinking I may have had a minor stroke. Instead. a CAT scan showed that the cancer had matastasized to the brain. I was started on steroids to reduce the swelling in my brain and radiation to shrink the tumor. It was hoped that I would get some use back on my left side; but, alas, that did not happen. I cannot drive ever again and trips to Walmart are few and far between because it is just such a huge hassel.I do want ya'll to know that I still get up every morning and read the advocate online. I really don't comment anymore because typing with one finger on one hand is just not doing it for me. Don't think for a minute that I wouldn't love to be in the middle of things!
Once again, thank you to all of you who send loving thoughts to me through my family. Thank you for your prayers. Please know that God has a plan and I am perfectly okay with it. My doctor has told me that under no circumstances will he let me suffer
OOPS! Just re-read the article and when the writer was referring to a "Tyler critic" I misread that as someone from Tyler, TX instead of a "Steve Tyler critic". Nevertheless, I still stand by my opinion of Don Mader.

I say neither. If you have no other choices, though, paper should be the choice. At least the elements eventually decompose it. The only real choice should be reusable bags. Keep plastic out of the landfills and out of the environment.
San Antonio has a population of approximately 1.325 million people and Victoria, TX proper (not the area) has a population of approximately 74,300. Based on the turnout in San Antonio and Victoria seems there was just a little over 1% of the population in each city attending the TEA parties. I'm guessing that the response was the same all over the country. Apparently the only people impressed by these turnout figures are Republicans and the news media!
Well said, Victore. Are those of you that are listening to Dick Armey, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and all other extreme right wing conservatives understanding just what Victore said? Wonder when people will (if ever) begin to think for themselves?
I don't know what the proposed mascots are for the new high schools, but I do know a couple of 6th graders who think it is just funny as all get out that VISD makes such a fuss over gang colors and gang anything and named the new schools "East" & "West" and are considering "gang colors" for the new school colors. Wonder why our kids are the way they are today. Can anybody say "mixed signals from adults"?
By the way, Mike, it might interest you to know that according to onecrabbylady unions are no longer needed to protect American workers. They just need to disband and let the corporations take care of them. Then we'll bring all of our outsourced jobs back home, everyone will make a wonderful living wage, have excellent benefits and the economic crisis will be over! Sometimes I just want to click my heels together 3 times and say, "There's no place like home" so I can wake up from this place called Victoria.
Spent a lovely Saturday in Portland and Corpus with all of my Republican family! OMG! Obama can't be worth s---! He hasn't fixed anything yet! Somebody call me a psychiatrist! Why do I put up with this? Oh, yeah. They're family and I have to love them!
You are absolutely right! However, Republicans in the House could have killed the bailout but caved. And it was a Republican Congress under George Bush (with the help, I'm sure, of lots of my fellow Democrats) that got us into the borrow and spend mode that gave us the $3 trillion debt. As I recall, Bush had the power of veto. I was really counting on the Republicans on the bailout deal. That got me absolutely nowhere.
