Henry, you have taken the shortest route possible to being heard. You have run for office before and you do have supporters. If the plant was really the issue, why would you not seek a referendum to stop the construction, why would you not want to put it before the people of Victoria? You are losing some supporters through out the city because you are making this a personal issue rather than a true civic issue. You yourself are causing embarrassment to the public office and position, never mind the Hispanics. Truth be told, its the old crabs in a bucket story all over again. One is near getting out and the others pull it down. Why not work together for the sake of the future. It may help in the long run. Where you were once seen and respected as an interested civic minded individual, you are now being looked upon as a problem child and trouble. Get your respect and support back, sit down, speak to Denise, look into the future, see what the plant is all about. See what things are going to be done to prevent those damaging issues you believe in, and trust you will gain more from that effort than what you are trying to do right now. Imagine that, showing some unity, showing and demonstrating the real interest in the real issue which is the plant, not Denise Rangel.
You should consider forming a committee to work, not just with Denise, but the entire city council to educate the community you live in about how the city plans to avoid the same issues that concern you and them. How long before construction? What about the beautification of the area once it is built? When will the plant be fully operational? How is the EPA involved or are they? You yourself should not be embarrassed to stop the pursuit of a recall? The recall could fail and then what? You are losing valuable time and should be focused on delivering something to your community it really needs. Education and service to them through involvement in reference to the plant.
I have known you for years, and supported some of your pursuits. Not this time. You will gain a whole lot of supporters by stopping the recall because it is seen as a personal vendetta, no matter how hard you try to make it a "plant" issue. Prove to the community and Victoria that your interests are sincere in the concerns about the plant, STOP THE RECALL.
Profiting could mean anything and sounds like someone is reaching. This means any function the Police Chief had for his officers or other public officials could be seen as "profiting". When one is in a position of this sort there may be some political gain which could in turn be seen as profitable. If the Police Chief has been there since 2000, what took so long? Sounds like the chief was doing what needed to be done to keep his job and the most important part is exactly that "doing his job". If the years he has been in office is correct and the amount of dollars are correct, was it done all at one time, or was it spread through out the time he served? Was he approached to inform him he was misusing the funds? Was he offered an opportunity to replace the funds after being informed? Seems to me those confiscated funds are about to be misused ad well in some type of long lengthy investigation and then a possible trial. Hey Refugio, don't misuse the funds, the Chief served the county for quite a few years, offer a buy out, offer opportunity to retire, offer something agreeable to both. Most important don't misuse the funds there, let them stagnate. Someone will come along with a great idea that everyone agrees on, and right or wrong, because everyone likes the idea, it will be okay.
I have purchased land in the methods mentioned, but in every case had an attorney review the contract for deed, researched the property history for taxes and liens and been fortunate to have had success. The culprit and bad guy is definitely Whitley. Perhaps his intent was good at the time, but we know what the end result is. People like this need to be caught and put away. If you have a "contract for deed", do yourself a favor, have an attorney review it, and go to your local tax (appraisal) office and inquire about the property. Also, if you personally don't have the insurance on your property, find out who it is insured through and contact them to confirm. My heart goes out to the Carrera's and the Berry's and I wish them well. The next step is difficult and is in Mr. Bell's hands. The bank now has the home and maybe just maybe they could open up their hearts rather than the vaults of money and work with the family in these difficult times.
PEEK A-BOO
