Dennis has done so much for the FBGC, and is an asset to our community. He serves as a Rotarian as well. Kudos to the board for doing what they can to keep such a wonderful leader. Thanks to them and to Dennis for all his hard work and dedication.

Habitat for Humanity and Victoria could not be blessed with a more wonderful person and leader. Congratulations to Cindy and her family.

Ms. Adams clearly doesn't have the entire story. It is shameful to hear allegations that Victoria is unaccepting of outsiders. Scott Mohon was not from here, and he was truly appreciated. Victoria is home to many businesspeople, physicians and other professionals who have been embraced by the community.

Now is the time for Victorians to stand up and ask for a change. The UH system does not support growth here and only recently asked for state funding to placate those pushing for expansion. This city is on the verge of great economic success, and the entrance of a dynamic university system that is interested in growth could not come at a better time. There are those with pedigrees here who are finding that the time of their throwing their weight around is over. It's time for those of us who have to work for a living to influence the environment in which we operate our businesses and rear our children. Representative Morrison, please stand up for us and demand that those interested university systems who are interested in Victoria be given the chance to establish a new era here.

These critical comments are without merit. This project was completely funded by donated money, materials and labor by ABC members in partnership with Keep Victoria Beautiful. Keep Victoria Beautiful will continue to maintain the sign, which will require minimal effort. The value of the sign is based upon what would have been spent to pay for the project turnkey. It in no way indicates that the mentioned amount was spent or will be spent on future signs.

Many of the members of ABC also serve the community as Rotarians, Lions, Kiwanis or through affiliation with other service groups. They affect the lives of families who can't afford immunizations for their children, provide eyeglasses to children, promote literacy, award scholarships, work with challenged athletes and many other worthwhile causes in the area. These people give freely of their time, money and talent.

There are always projects that could benefit from volunteerism. Most will need ongoing maintenance that will come from the owner long after the volunteer work is done. This is no reason to discount the value of other projects completed by volunteers. Instead, critics should consider joining a service club and reaching out to those they feel could benefit from a volunteer project and make it happen. See just what's involved in getting one off the ground.

I wonder if any of the critics of this project ever receive any help from volunteer services or donated funds. Could such funds be used better as well?

Instead of complaining about the flag's condition, why doesn't someone in Mission Valley show a little pride and appreciation for these firefighters' volunteerism and drop off a new flag at the station? It would be a small price to pay for their selfless work. Please be a little more thoughtful and less judgemental.

The Cash for Clunkers was just another way to spend taxpayer dollars without our consent that will prove to have only caused a false automobile market recovery. It lured many people into debt and took usable, affordable vehicles out of the market. None of the top ten cars sold through this program were American vehicles, although some made have been made here. Additionally, the American factory shutdowns made the only eligible American-made vehicles unavailable to dealers.

Congratulations to Mr. McGarrh and all who will enjoy the new ATV park. I think this is a great addition to Victoria that will offer people an easy way to enjoy their ATVs.

I must take exception, however, with his comments that there are lots of wealthy people who don't give back to the community. Nothing could be further from the truth! The fact is that many non-profits are the recipients of very generous gifts. There are fundraisers in Victoria practically every week, and the same generous people Mr. McGarrh speaks of are front and center in support. There are many operations that could not exist without support from generous patrons. I, myself, have been involved in a number of fundraising projects and have experienced the generosity of our "wealthy" citizens.

The ATV park, again, is a great asset to our city, but it is targeted at a very specific demographic that does not reach the number of citizens that other non-profit and public projects do.

While cabijrose doesn't deserve to be attacked personally, his/her comments are unreasonable. The Browns are extremely sensitive to their surroundings and have installed a nice privacy fence around the pool. Furthermore, Mrs. Brown refrains from the use of a whistle while training specifically to maintain a quiet environment out of consideration for her neighbors, and the pool is not for recreational use, so there are no loud children.

This facility is used by parents who are paying a professional coach to train their children in water safety and swimming competition. They are responsible people, and they are not leaving litter behind. Most of them, in fact, merely drop their children off and pick them up from lessons, so cars are not constantly parked up and down the street. There is much more disturbance from Main Street and from the Union Pacific line than from anyone at the Brown's pool.

Congratulations to Linda Brown for her success and thanks to her for taking the risk of investment to offer this fine facility and her skills to the youth of Victoria. Her achievement and contribution to the neighbor certainly do not "suck."
