Well you gave it a shot but again you missed the mark. You begin this blog with "We report on a funeral only when a person's death is of high community interest" WOW what a kick in the stomach to the families of the less interesting people who have passed. Then a paragraph about your daughters friend, while this too is horribly sad we're talking about your photo. I have spoken with the DeLeon family and nobody knows who gave you permission, was it some distant relative perhaps? The only people who should have been allowed to give permission, Cole's parents. Before the picture was printed, EVERYONE in the picture should have been asked. I appreciate your attempt at an apology but you spent more time talking about everyone else and as an afterthought tossed in an apology. Your "photo" didn't cause them any added pain, your enlarging it and printing it on the front page to exploit the "human condition" did that trick.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the Advocates choice of front page picture. Whatever their reason, whatever their permission, in my opinion they overstepped all boundaries when exploiting this families grief. A smaller picture within the story would still be wrong but would have been better. This time was a time to remember an amazing young man and the short life that he lived. He should have been honored.
At the least I believe the Advocate, whether they mean it or not, should write a front page apology to the Pargmann/DeLeon family for the exploitation of this extremely private moment.
Good Ride Mean Green! I am a newbie when it comes to Cuero Football and have to say that it was a great season!! I sure wish Cole Pargmann had been let loose against La Vega, that kid is impressive!!! Catch ya next year.
