Gabe.... thank you for this hopeful article.  You might want to check into how many of the cases delayed were crimes with VICTIMS.

I'd be more interested in seeing just how many sex crime VICTIMS haven't been duly represented by our District Attorney.  I'd like to see how many actual victim crime cases were taken forward by our current DA ..  I'd love to hear how the VICTIMS felt after talking with the current DA and how their cases will be handled.  I'd love to hear how the communication between the VICTIMS and the DA is going.

I saw the logs of the 320+ cases where the "DA refused to review" and I know there were a ton of actual crimes against people - assault with bodily harm, sex assault cases, child molestation cases and such.  I wonder where those stand now (the names and birthdates were blacked out) .

I also am curious about how the District Attorney feels about helping VICTIMS.  Does he prefer to plea bargain with the criminal or does he like to go to trial?  What evidence does the DA use in his prosecution?   How does a VICTIM get their case accepted?  What other agencies are involved or help VICTIMS of sex crimes?  I'd like to see an article about how a VICTIM gets walked through the system from when they first report it to the end where they go to trial (if needed).

And while you are at it, can you please find out what exactly our District Attorney's job descriptions are?    Of course I know this last answer  but I thought the readers might be interested.

I don't find us particularly lucky to have a news station that will NOT cover important events in our city.  Every news cannot be a happy smiley face story and that seems to be what KAVU wants to only covers.  How can the residents of Victoria really learn about local events if they are not informed?

THANK you, Victoria Advocate, for giving us the news like you see it with warts and all.  THANK you for caring enough to actually send a reporter out to do a story (rather than hanging your head out the studio door with a camera and filming Furr's again)!!  Thank you for asking the right questions to get an answer.

So rather than focusing on the bad of KAVU, let's focus on the good of the Advocate.  THANK YOU....

Because the local law enforcement officers ALREADY SIGN A SIMPLE PAPER THAT TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT THEY DO.   And it's NOT a simple little ole' piece of paper either.  IF it were a simple little ole' paper, why is Mr. DA holding our legal system hostage with it?  Why is this simple paper so important to Mr. DA?  Why have attorneys rejected the simple little ole' paper over and over again?  Guess it isn't so simple afterall!!  I have to ask if you, southtexas, have even read the affidavit and understand it?  **by the way, I object to you using southtexas.  I live in south Texas and well....

Themis, stop practicing law without a license.  You don't understand the procedures.  I'm sure you haven't spoken with an attorney on the matter either.  The bond you are talking about is about the temporary appointee to the District Attorney's office IF he/she is temporarily removed while the investigation is ongoing!  The money comes from a general fund by the county.  You do realize that all this is online for the public to read, right?  The person filing the petition is NOT the temporary appointee!!

It is not up to us to decide if the District Attorney is guilty of any of the allegations.  Just as it is NOT up to the District Attorney to decide if the people brought forth are guilty of any allegations.  There is a legal process set up (been there for hundreds of years) for this very thing.  But we do have a civic duty to take legal action if we feel something is not right in our local legal system.  And that is what we are doing.

It's NOT just 10 people.  It might have started that way but the count is way over ten!  And several people of the original group do have a clue what is going on.  Many of us have actually gone downtown and spoken with elected officials and city officials.  We've pulled so many public files that we each have a book now.

If the criminial attorneys southtexas speaks of actually do want it to stop, why haven't they done anything to help the situation?  Why haven't the "powerful" people gotten involved and tried to help the residents of Victoria?  Why haven't they offered any solutions?  Why don't we start asking them?  I'm actually glad this was brought up.  Maybe we can get Gabe to ask them?  Maybe we can start asking them on the record.  Thank you for pointing that out.  We will be sure to tell them that southtexas suggested we ask.

The man serving 26 years in prison for a crime he didn't committ did NOT live in Victoria.  That crime did NOT take place in Victoria.  That crime was NOT tried here in Victoria.  The man was NOT convicted here in Victoria.  And the man did NOT serve time in Victoria.  I'm sure if he wanted to move to Victoria now we would welcome him.

What are we to do about the 300+ cases with the PD (I don't have a count of the SO cases yet) the DA has refused?  What about all those victims?  When will those victims ever get their day in court?  And it isn't up to the PD, the SO or the DPS to decide who is guilty.  It also is NOT up to the DA to decide who is guilty.  Last time I checked it was up to a jury of 12 peers to decide who is guilty (or not guilty) based on evidence presented at the time of a trial.

You know, sometimes a District Attorney will win cases.  And sometimes a District Attorney will lose cases.  But a DA has to actually present cases in order to get either result.  And our current DA is NOT even accepting cases.

This is not about any one case.  Of course the Ratcliff case is not connected - because that man is actually getting his day in court.   That man is getting a trail.  That man has all the attention of the DA (especially since the DA is refusing cases - he has to be working on something)!  So NO, it's certainly NOT about the Ratcliff case.   Good on Ratcliff for having his day in court rather quickly I might add jumping over countless other cases.

It's not about getting attention or claiming the spotlight.  Please!!  I can think of a million things to get attention for and all of them are much more glorified than this issue.  What personal need could this possibly fulfill for any person?   Most of us actually have more to lose by exercising our rights as a citizen of Victoria.  **And every resident in Victoria has so much to lose if something is not done soon.

**Please note that we NOT represent southtexas in our opinions.  And thank you southtexas for "being tough on crime".   I will be looking for southtexas to take some action for what he/she believes is right.  I would hope that he/she would certainly be looking for a solution instead of just shooting down our solution.

The City Council members met on November 6, 2007 to consider the park.   http://www.victoriatx.org/council/ind...

It might be really helpful if several residents went to the next meeting to voice thier opinions on the matter.   City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Council meetings are held in the council chambers at the corner of Juan Linn and Main Street.

This would be a good opportunity for residents to be heard and to show how much interest there really is for such a park.  Just wanted to pass that information onto whomever wants to head it up!!

Thank you for recognizing the truth! You are very right.  Any person - no matter how small or "important" - can make a difference.   Even if it's just recognizing the truth and saying something about it.  When madness wears a crown, we all suffer!!!

Ahhahahahahahahah!!!  You are a brilliant man!!  THANK YOU!!

Good observation!   It's not so much religious icons as it is reminders of what God has done for us.  Not being a Catholic (but married to one), I sometimes think that the Catholic church is a bit over-the-top!  But yah, Mr. Osteen - not my cup of tea!!  Thank you for being so polite and tactful in the description of your experience.
