Javier Lopez, 12, approaches a pit bull that was shot dead by police officers on the 2600 block of Cardinal Street. "He used to come to my house," said Lopez, who lives nearby. "The dog was real friendly." The incident was the third attack by pit bulls this week.

Sole Hope

About 30 people gathered at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Victoria for a shoe cutting party benefitting Sole Hope, an organization that facilitates shoe cutting parties across the United and Canada, where people trace, cut and organize shoe materials to make shoes. The pre-cut shoe materials are shipped to Zambia and Uganda, where widows in the African villages of Zambia and Uganda complete the shoes for a salary, and then the completed shoes are given out to children with no shoes.
