As we drive back to Victoria, I feel excited for Texans. We have the chance to elect someone to be our Governor that wants to restore our freedom and liberties, eliminate property taxes, and create a better future for our children.

At the reception after the debate tonight, Debra said, "Tomorrow things will be different. They are already talking. Tonight was a homerun!"

Nothing could be more true. Debra showed Texans tonight that she is in this race for WE TEXANS. She is in this to win and she will fight with every thing she has to do just that.

CBS11's political analyst, John Weekly, did not want to call a winner. He says "the goal of a political debate is not to lose. And he said nobody lost. But Medina might have just slipped in and won!"

My fellow Texans, tomorrow is a new day and I ask that if you didn't see the debate to please visit the website below to watch it and make an informed decision about who you are going to vote for to secure your future in Texas on March 2.

  • I read this yesterday, and it may answer your questions about Medina's status-quo-preserving exclusion from the next debate:

A word on Debra Medina and the debates
    Ryan J. Rusak/Editor - Dallas Morning News
    Friday, Jan 15, 2010

A lot of commenters/e-mailers/callers are asking about whether Debra Medina is taking part in the next Republican gubernatorial debate, Jan. 29, sponsored by Belo Corp. and The Dallas Morning News. We appreciate the passion you bring to politics; at heart, we're political junkies, too, so we know that the really engaged few often drive the process.

And let me note that this newspaper has devoted a lot more coverage to Medina's candidacy than some outlets. Just this week, we had a front-page story on her state-sovereignty event and her role in the primary. We covered her announcement that she would run. We've blogged about her ads and her policies.

Our broadcast partners set the criteria for the Jan. 29 debate. They mirror what many media outlets use to make these decisions. They include:

-- 15 percent standing in independent public opinion polls, the standard used by the Commission on Presidental Debates.
-- substantial campaign contributions from varied sources.
-- previously held significant public office.
-- received a substantial number of votes in prior elections for public office.
-- will be included in election-night returns reported by news agencies.
-- has received significant news coverage from a wide range of media outlets.

At The News, we will continue to monitor the situation and report on this campaign like we do all others: without fear or favor.

  • MattO, read in forgot which paper that the next debate will be WITHOUT Medina present! Maybe some in that party can explain that one? Does she not represent them (party) also? It will hopefully backfire on them...read online just about all were impressed by her and not the childish pretty hair puppets there flanking her.

  • It was not a great debate by any means. I do have to agree that Medina took a huge lead in my book. She had good answers to tough questions.
Much better than the 2 politicians she was sitting with

  • This debate is so good it makes me want to go out and beat people up.

  • How do you win against Perry:
[1] Keep repeating his idiotic comments
    about Texas seceding.
[2] Keep repeating his idiotic line about tolls:
“it’s either slow roads, no roads, or toll roads” [3] Keep repeating his other (of many) idiotic lines about tolls: “the gas tax would have to be raised $1 per gallon to offset new toll roads”
[4] Keep repeating his stupid idea to force vaccinations on teen girls (by the way, the pharmaceutical company in line to do this was a Perry campaign contributor- no surprise there!)
[5] Keep showing the following YouTube video (start watching after 6 minutes into, and see how Perry ‘manhandles’ Sarah Palin like it’s 1950- that’s sure to get the female voters)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va4hnpu7JKs&feature=related
[6] Keep repeating how MOST states have term limits and allowing this idiot another 4 years as gov is pretty much akin to a dictatorship (with 14 total years in office) ETC. ETC. ETC

Medina was the clear winner of this debate.

  • Debra Medina had to fight to even get a seat at this event. She was very eloquent regarding this challenge in her statements. She was not given equal time as the other candidates were given unwarranted opportunities to nit-pick between each other. I suppose this was her punishment from the hosts...

Debra hit SO many homeruns last night by stating specifically what she would do once she is elected as governor. Perry and Hutchison have proven records of not doing what they say although they tried to say otherwise last night.

Debra Medina definitely has my vote on March 2!

  • I love to watch debates and found the debate last night an awsome one. Last nights debate should have been a real eye opener for many Texans. Rick Perry really showed his true colors, he came off as a shady and out of touch with the real issues we face. He danced around almost all of the questions and often seemed confused. His confusion and lack of reality is what got us in the mess we are in. Medina did a good job and was I was impressed with her answers. Still not sure who I am going to vote for but Perry will not get my vote for sure.

  • Going into the debate, I was definitely a Perry supporter. I did not feel that KBH was sufficiently conservative enough to be made governor. I had just read my first article about Debra Medina this weekend, but felt she unknown and, therefore, unelectable.

That said, I was sorely disapointed in Perry's performance last night. His dancing around the business margin tax (he never addressed it though KBH was hammering him on it) and the repeated spin talk (ie. "why do so many want to come to Texas?") in response to direct questions left me wanting. Perry seemed to come off a bit clownish.

KBH was definitely the more polished politician of the two but her indirect, sashsaying around the 'Roe vs. Wade' answer was her worst moment. Best moment was her closing statement.

That left me with Debra Medina who had the unique position on stage last night of having no record to stand on or to defend. Her answers, and I mean all of them, were clear, consise, understandable and principled. She seemed stubbornly attached to principle and that is a positive. Whether that adherence to principle will actually stand up to realities of holding office would be the telling sign.

We, the citizens of Texas, have great faith in the individuals we have sent Austin and Washington and many times have been remorseful after seeing our shining hope fade and blend in in the real light of politics.

Based on last night's debate, I'm placing a sign in my yard today. It says 'Medina'. I guess hope springs eternal within this disillusioned conservative heart.

  • I do think she won (Medina) only thing is that the big money will not get behind her. She has a steep uphill battle but 'underdog' is a term used for people/teams that DO WIN against huge odds.

KBH was a joke! answer the question "yes" or "no" I can not believe she was that much of a airhead.

Toni now that you did Dallas, how was it? who did you meet? any national politicos there? Ocker, did he behave?

  • Freedom, why people use that word so loosely? what is freedom? might be your freedom but, does that equate to someone's else freedom?. I didnt know that I was subjugated to anything but I am sure that you will get me straight there, right?
