An old friend of mine from high school was ranting about the government the other day on Facebook. I wrote to him and asked him if he was alright. He sent me a long email further explaining his unhappiness with Obama - he had some conspiracy theories about the way Osama bin Laden was killed - if he was indeed dead.

The thing I couldn't understand was the fact that he wanted to go on and on about it. His political beliefs are his own business and I believe we're all entitled to our opinions. But I could tell from his comments and his email that he was so angry, so disillusioned, so unhappy.

I think we all have choices in life that we make every day, sometimes without even realizing we're doing it. If we think about good things, things that make us happy, then certainly we're going to feel good. If we think about bad, depressing things and let our emotions get churned up then we will feel bad, angry and sad.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? It can be, but it takes a little practice. I'm not saying I've got it mastered -- not by a long-shot. I slip sometimes (thinking about the loss of my dad can get me going) and when I do I feel awful. This doesn't help me, so most of the time I'm able to pull out of it and go back to feeling good.

We have a choice and we're given a fresh, new start every morning, 365 days a year. My wish for you today is that you're content and happy in your life. Happy Mother's Day to all of you mom's out there. Have a good day, all day.
