I woke to a beautiful, windy and cool morning in 2012. This new year feels so promising, so rich with possibilities and opportunities. I'm ready to try new things, visit new places and get in the best shape I've been in years.
I sat at the kitchen table with a fresh cup of coffee and looked out the window at the blue sky and listened to the wind chimes frantically dancing in the wind. My back yard stared back at me in all its bare reproachfulness and whispered to me, this will be the year you landscape me, cut down that tree growing dangerously close to the house, place a fence around me, water me and keep my grass and shrubs green and healthy.
Today, for the first time in a week, I feel well. The chest cold that jolly old St. Nick brought me for Christmas is down to just a little cough and I feel my strength returning. With the strength comes new resolve and an optimism that grows with near manic enthusiasm to clean, organize, improve and reinvent. The second cup of coffee that I'm sipping right now sends caffeine coursing through my veins to further heighten my resolve.
Oh blessed New Year! You came and rescued me from boredom and the rut I had dug myself so deeply into. You've given me reenergized purpose and and hope. I thank God that I have the chance to try on yet another pair of rose colored glasses and see things in a new and varied light.
I hope that 2012 is good to everyone. We all have the choice to be better and try harder to learn tolerance and appreciation for one another's differences and uniqueness. God, in His infinite wisdom, knew what He was doing when He created us all so flawed; perfection can be boring and not nearly as conducive to growth and self-realization.
Happy New Year!!! Here's to fresh start and a clean slate!
