Today my husband came across an old email my Mom had sent to me and I had forwarded to him back in 2008. He forwarded the email back to me so I could see it again.

It was good to re-read her funny words and to mentally revisit the happy years before she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She thanked me for the book that I had ordered for her, joked with my husband about an illustration he had done and said she was looking forward to a Cowboy's game that was being played the next day. My brother Joe was at her house that day fixing new steps for her porch and she was cooking steak and gravy for supper.

On a whim, I sent an email back to Mom. I wrote in all caps, "I LOVE YOU MOM!" Then I waited to see whether it would go through. She's been gone for over three years now so I didn't imagine her AOL email would work. It didn't.

However, Outlook sent me an email titled, "Undeliverable: LOVE." There was a lot of coding and numbers to support their claim of undeliverable status. There was just no way my Mom was going to get this message of love from me:

I beg to disagree. I felt Mama's love coming through loud and clear while I was reading her email from 2008. She may be gone, but my love for HER is here and always will be. Who needs email, ha!
