Below, in italics, is a blog I posted on the evening of July 4th. My intentions were not rave reviews nor were they for recognition. My intentions were such that I hoped what I had to say might unite at least a few, in realizing, "Things aren't so bad." So much for that idea. Today is July 9th, almost five full days since that post, and there have been nineteen viewers and one person with a comment (positive comment). I'm disappointed to see that the blogs are still littered with topics such as gas prices. It's gas! It's expensive! It's going to be that way for a while, maybe forever. We're all dealing with that problem. Just accept it.
Another great one, Brett Farve. Is he coming back? Is he not? Who cares? He's just a football player. Exceptional quarterback? Yes One of the best in history? Yes. But he's just a man. He's not God. He's a quarterback.
One blog I really got a kick out of pertained to the deceased Heath Ledger's roll in the upcoming Batman sequel, and whether or not it's oscar worthy. How many people really spend that much time in a day thinking about this. I can honestly say it has never crossed my mind. My point, which I thought my July 4th blog would make, is there are more serious issues in America and throughout the world. Now I know some will say, "well, with all the troubles in the world we need things like this to de-stress." "De-stress?" What do most of us do? Work 9-5 office jobs, oilfield, etc. De-stress, almost an embarassing term. For the past five years (apporixmately) I spent nearly ever day of my life working with people from every 3rd world country you could imagine. Many of which had never seen so much as a bottle of Coca-Cola in their entire life. What would they think about "de-stress?" I don't really know what else to say from here.
I just realized this, as I'm sitting here, browsing the internet, looking and dreaming at far away, exotic places, to go fish for Blue Marlin, Barracuda and any other friendly fish willing to bite my line. From the other room I can hear CNN news; "Gas prices at an all-time high today..." , "Is A-Rod really with Madonna?", "A glass of prune juice may add 75 days to the average persons life." Outside I hear fireworks, but I can't see them. They sound like artillery rounds. It makes me think about the soldiers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and who knows where else. They hear the same sounds tonight. But it sure isn't fireworks. It's artillery rounds, improvised explosive devices. And the sound of human voices aren't those of celebration. They're probably screams of fear, terror, pain and confusion. I've never been in war, but the sound of fireworks, coupled with clips of war on the television, allows me to put 2 and 2 together and realize, thing's aren't so bad. At least not for me right now as I sip my Mr. Pibb and get ready to retire to bed and watch a little television. God Bless Our Country and those serving for us tonight. I doubt they're thinking about $4/gallon or sipping on Mr. Pibb. Yes, we may be paying a little more for gas and milk these days, but it could be worse. Happy 4th of July. And remember, we do live in the best country in the world. God has truly blessed America.
